Some General Changes:
a) Slight alteration to the battle rules: when the entire army is outnumbered 2:1, instead of each player-knight needing by default to fight two opponents each, each commander will have a -5 to their battle roll each round. I feel this better reflects the reality that when a larger formation is fighting a smaller formation, everyone in the smaller formation isn't getting individually ganged up on, rather the formation as a whole is at a tactical disadvantage and is more liable to be pushed back or routed. Also even though I've resolved to make battles more deadly, being put up against two berserkers BY DEFAULT would be a bit more deadly than I think we can handle. If you choose to fight boldly and that happens to you, you had it coming, but if you're just holding the line, one berserker is dangerous enough.
b) Some enemies (about 1 in 10) will be impassioned with Hate (Britons) or some such passion, granting them +10 to their weapon skill. Passions aren't just for named characters anymore.
c) All enemy Saxons are now a bit tougher. Saxon Youths are gone, and Berserkers are back to being a specific (extremely deadly) warrior type rather than a special condition for other warrior types. The average enemy weapon skill is now 16, not counting mounted/unmounted modifiers.
d) Some enemies will now trigger extended duels when you encounter them on the battlefield, generally either enemy commanders or monsters. When this happens, the battle is effectively paused until the single combat is resolved. You can end the combat at any time by withdrawing, which will count as a Loss for that battle round. If you are victorious, it counts as a combat Crit for that battle round, and you gain additional glory depending on the kind of enemy it is (generally either +50 or +100).
e) No other enemies will give specific glory amounts. Instead, you will receive glory based on the size of the battle (as in RAW) and per your combat result, as well as for captured banners and for commanding units.
f) For unit commanders, the result of your battle roll will no longer directly translate into Glory; the reward for being good at the Battle skill is racking up enemy Banners and helping your side to achieve a decisive victory (doubling everyone's glory). From now on commanders will now receive a glory bonus each round according to your rank and the size of the battle. In a medium battle, an eschille commander receives 10 glory per round, and a company commander receives 20, for example.
