The Car Thread.

Postby Rebo » Thu May 02, 2013 9:13 pm

This is the car thread. It will be about....cars, you idiot. C'mon, context clues. As an ASE certified master tech I will answer any car related questions you may have. Or work you up an estimate using the labor guide on how much a repair should cost, so you don't get dicked over at the repair shop.

I will be accepting donations for this service, in the form of AB- blood. Keep your smelly AB+ blood to yourself.

I'm A neg, but my mum is AB neg. Why do you need the rarest type, though? Is it tastier?

I actually need some advice on learning to drive (Yes, I am 33, shut up). Is that something you can help with, or no?

I'm just a blood hipster. It comes with the spiderbody.

I can teach you to drive on the right side of the street, Bond.

(Insert some sort of dirty driving stick shift joke in your head here. I'm too classy to make one myself, but not too classy to point it out.)

(Now give yourself a joke about the usage of the word "insert.")

I have A+, which is incompatible with AB-, so hah!

Also, I only have a 2005 Honda Odyssey, but if I get the money, I'm going to install a new intake, maybe a new exhaust, perhaps lower the suspension (mostly for appearance), paint it matte black, and get LED headlights. I will never have the money to do this, but it would be awesome, in a very campy way.

My car squeals like something's caught. I used to think it was the tires, but it dies off when I turn off the air. People give me mean looks in parking lots :(

What kind of car is it? (This will always be pertinent)

You've either got a loose v-belt, a worn serpentine belt and tensioner assembly, or your A/C compressor's clutch is on the fritz.

I don't know what year, but it's a Chrysler Concorde.

This might not be your problem, but a lot of people suffer a squealing car, particularly when turning.

Power steering fluid - $5 and you're good.

Just thought I'd through that out there.

It's does do that sometimes, I'll be sure to do that too. This is a different noise, it sounds like I'm squealing my tires, even if I'm sitting in a parking space.

If it goes away when you turn your air off, it's the belt on your A/C compressor, or your a/c compressor clutch. Most likely the belt though. Does your Air conditioning work, or does it just blow outside air in through the vents?

If you tell me what kind of car you have, there is a good chance that you can just get Santa to tighten the V belt. If it's a car with a serpentine belt, you should probably have the belt and tensioner replaced. If that belt breaks, on a Chevrolet, for instance, you are going to be stranded since it also drives your water pump, alternator, and power steering.

It's that green one in the picture. I ran outside to take it. The truck in front was too close to get a picture of the front end of it. A Chrysler Concorde with squarish headlights.

It works, it leaks fluids when I've had it on for a while and stop. I think, anyway as it's cold, it's the first car I've had with any A/C at all.

Also, your words are witchcraft. Seriously, car people are so much smarter than I could ever be.

That pic isnt working for me right now, but almost all concordes have a v6 with a separate belt for the air conditioning pulley. It can be tightened, pretty easily. Surely your boyfriend must have some basic hand tools? If not, he doesn't deserve his beard. (Though I'm sure he's swell.)

If that's something you can make him do, I'll copy images from Alldata (car program) and give you a link to instructions. I'm not sure if it is OK or not to post them in forum since I'm sure it's copywrited by someone.

So, as annoying as it is, nothing bad will happen if you ignore it, except the dirty looks. Also what you see on the ground is condensation running out of the drain tube for the evaporator core. It's normal.

Fun fact, A/C is freon under high pressure. If you release a system quickly, you can actually freeze a wrench like in demolition man. Then you can shatter it.

Haha! He's a D&D playing English graduate (as well as possibly being Santa) so he's earned his manliness, but I think I own more tools. If it's not broken, it's fine, but I'll get under the hood sometime this weekend and try to learn more about it :) Thanks a ton, love.

I just got a new car, well a jeep...... it's red and eh.... well that's pretty much it, you now know as much as I do about it. But I'm determined to take care of this one, and not ruin it like everything else that's been in my possession however fleetingly.
