COVER SONGS

Postby rickmcslick » Tue Apr 23, 2013 3:07 pm

Love them or hate them, cover songs are all around us. Some are terrific homages to the original, some take it in directions the author of the song never thought possible, and some take a great, good, or even just OK song and slather it in awful. I'm calling on you fellow Commenters to share your favorite AND most hated cover songs!

I like Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, covers are pretty much all they do. But "...Love Their Country" is probably the cd I listen to the most.

Ok here is my favourite cover song in the whole world, it's a cover of Led Zeppelin's song "No Quarter" by Tool, and I just love it!
I hope I put this up right, I'm still a bit of a n00b :)

Uhh damn my noobishness. Could anyone tell me how to embed the video? I'm embarrassingly crap at this

Fixed. You owe me. -TM

Also, OhJohnNo, that video of Take That doing Teen Spirit just rendered my ears and soul forever useless.

Any other Radiohead fans? I went searching one day for "Radiohead bluegrass" to find a sample of a song done on bluegrass, but instead of a shitty tribute record I got this:

I swear to you, I never felt so torn apart. I love the original (it's my favorite closing track of any record ever), but the second fiddle solo just stirs me. Home run.

Here's one more incredible cover:

For the record, I don't love the original of this song.

Some covers I've enjoyed in recent times:

M. Ward's cover of To Go Home by Daniel Johnston

The Robert Glasper Experiment's cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana

Enjoy! (I hope).

Chameleon Circuit, also known as a goddamned Doctor Who cover band, and they are bloody brilliant.

A mariachi covering Viva la Vida by Coldplay.

Now here me out guys. Before you walk away awkwardly just listen to it. It's actually pretty good.

There's actually a ton of mariachi cover songs. Wonderwall, Hotel California, Bohemian Rhapsody, you name it.

There once was a guy called Coyote
Whose voice was a dose of peyote
His smooth mellow tones
Caused such flutters and moans
That the chat got all rapt and emote-y
