Cindy Hyde-Smith has made the oh-so-wise decision to........double down?

Basically, she's standing by her earlier comment. Yikes.

When I see that she said that about a cattle rancher, I assume she means hanging a cattle rustler like in a Western movie. It's a weird thing to say regardless, and I understand how people assumed she was talking about lynching...but I think they're wrong.

Still, a weird thing to say.

Ambiguity is the point of dog whistles, but she's not even trying to claim the connotation didn't occur to her, which would be literally unbelievable. Public hangings of criminals in Mississippi ended in 1940. Lynchings continued at least into the 1960s, and Mississippi had the highest total number of lynchings between the end of Reconstruction and the end of the Civil Rights Movement. While I think she probably did intend that "joke" as a dog whistle, it doesn't really matter. I don't see how a politician in Mississippi can be unaware of the state's history with lynchings, especially if she is aware of its history of public executions. And she's running against a black man, which makes it look worse. She's either a racist using a dog whistle or one of the most clueless people on the planet; either way, she has shown herself unqualified to be a Senator but will probably win the runoff anyways.

Yeah I don't think the last public hanging in Mississippi was of a cattle thief.

When was the last time anyone in Mississippi was elated to attend a public hanging?

And what was the skin color of the departed?

Who invites people to a public hanging? What kind of society, I mean the south wonders why they're ridiculed and it's like they aren't even aware of how they come across.

Sorry, us Yankees are rude because we don't invite anyone to our public killings. We just shoot you and move on with the day.

She's a product of her environment!

The Jackson Free Press report, published Friday night, shows a yearbook picture in which Hyde-Smith poses with other girls and a mascot seemingly dressed as a Confederate general and holding a Confederate flag. The school was one of several private institutions set up to bypass integration after Mississippi Gov. John Bell Williams in 1969 ordered that public schools integrate.

She also proudly celebrated history by wearing a Confederate hat and posing with various weapons in 2014.

Another thing she did was introduce a bill to rename part of a road after former Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

I wonder how she really feels about black people. :?: I mean, of course President Trump supports her so anything that seems racist is really just all good fun between friends.

“If President [Barack] Obama sent a letter to the Senate saying we’ve got a problem on the border and I need $7.2 billion, I think either the Appropriations and the Judiciary Committee would take it up promptly and we’d consider it,” said Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), a key immigration dealmaker.

Representative steve king of Iowa-

"I'm not a racist" guy wrote:“White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” Mr. King said. “Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?”

After this article was published Thursday, Mr. King issued a public statement calling himself a “nationalist” and defending his support of “western civilization’s values,” and said he was not an advocate for “white nationalism and white supremacy.” “I want to make one thing abundantly clear: I reject those labels and the evil ideology they define,” he wrote.

Too lazy to post in the News That Would Break The Internet thread and it's more relevant to the above post but uh...

What if Steve King was literally drowning in a melting pot and was saved by a immigrant who just moved here?

This time, even the Republicans got tired of Steve King and they removed him from committee assignments.

Max shared this on Discord, but holy fuck.

In my estimation of her, this tweet took Jill Stein from "generic annoying far-left crackpot" to "4D conspiracy theorist, friend of autocrats everywhere, and basically Donald Trump in green."
