And Canada has all the freshwater the world could ever need, yet the greedy bastards hoard it all to themselves.

You should use salt water to fight your forest fires. It's more common, and it'll salt the earth so that no more trees that can burn will grow there.

I saw a dead cicada and heard them calling today. So I looked it up and central Texas does not have periodic cicadas, these are just the regular kind which I did not notice the past two summers I have been here.

According to society, moving Japanese civilians to camps for a few years before letting them go back to their lives is bad but nuking hundreds of thousands of Japansese civilians is A-OK

Steven Universe:

The ultimate fate of the gem's is extinction, given how they are created and reproduced.
Also, there's never been a completed gem colony.

JamishT was a heck of a guy,
With a devilish twinkle in his eye.
With his hand-picked flowers,
And his feel-good powers,
He made all the girls blush and sigh.

I just read about a Twitter account that posts obviously wrong (but mostly hilarious) answers to Wheel of Fortune puzzles.

(Presumably, the only way to stop a bad guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law is a good guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law, and thus transgender-friendly privacy law rights need to be enshrined in the Constitution as well)

Earlier tonight at around 2am, the power blinked out and I heard a boom. I assumed that it was a transformer blowing up, and that the power would be out for a good while, but I was hungry. I began thinking of places I could get some food. I began craving pancakes, because I thought of IHOP (International House of Pancakes) which are generally open 24/7. I decided to go to one in a nicer part of town because I am a super racist figured if there's trouble in an IHOP, it won't be that one. It was a true assumption, because IT WAS CLOSED. This fancy schmancy IHOP is only open until midnight on weekdays!

So I went to Waffle House, and by this time, my roommate had texted me to let me know the power was back. I stayed anyway and got a hash brown bowl and a peanut butter waffle (they don't serve pancakes, of course).

Techno Viking meets Star Wars Kid. In all seriousness, the man in this video is actually a very respected martial arts instructor and historian, and his channel is gold if you're into this sort of thing.

For some reason, talk of NPC's and people who "Lack and inner voice" (that is, people who don't experience their thoughts in language) is becoming popular on /pol/. Its lead to more than one thread being created at once around the topic.

Today I used "I mean" and "I mean," in two sentences, and realized that it had never occurred to me that they mean different things. Which I should have, because as a linguist I know all about filler terms. It just never occurred to me how meaningless "I mean," can be.

Consider:

I mean I like you.

vs.

I mean, I like you...
