My woods, Jack replies simply, to Lux, speaking as always into her mind instead of out loud. Wizmous, of course, hears nothing.

Not my coin. But what do you want with it?

The other cat, the parti-coloured one, has already said out loud what she intends, or claims to. Jack has no objection to such a disposal of the coin: he would be quite happy to have it taken away from his territory, and let loose these things tend to be trouble.

Wismous regards the silent cat, who doesn't respond to Lux, quizzically. But as they don't make a move toward the coin, she puts them from her mind.

Turning back to Lux, she considers her words, "You are perhaps right that this coin is not the exact one I lost. You are correct that your disposition does make me think you know of the dangers. However, even if this coin is not my lost one, any one of the thirty coins could help me locate the one I desire. We need only behold the sigil engraved on its face to know if it is mine. With your knowledge and mine, we could locate my lost coin, and I would certainly give up any claim on this one. Be assured, I have spent centuries researching and devising a proper receptacle to house this tricksome coin, or any of its like. What say you?"

That Jack didn't speak aloud didn't faze Lux, though it did make her response to Wizmous more detailed than she would have liked it to be. Preferring to keep things close to her chest, Lux was going against her norm by being more blunt with her response.

"These coins house fallen angels that used trickery in the form of coins to escape from their punishment in Hell, and that type of behavior deserves to be punished. All I want is for these coins to be kept off the streets so that their inhabitants aren't freed upon the world," Lux explained, for both listening. "If you have a fail safe way of seeing to that which would last longer than what the church can do, I have no issues giving you the coin."

She paused, for effect. "However, if I find out your words were simply a ruse to acquire the coin for a more selfish goal, then be forewarned that I will not react well."

Jack chatters in mild irritation at the grey cat's execessive explanation. I know what they are. But it seems there is not going to be a fight, and if they are to be trusted - certainly not a given, especially for the grey 'fallen one' - then either would remove the troublesome thing from his territory without further harm. His tail stills and his fur relaxes.

He addresses the parti-colour, who it seems will end up with the filthy thing: I don't want the coin. Don't want it here either. He pauses to consider. Who are you?

Lilli

Its not easy to track a Red Court Vampire to her stashhouse. Especially when you do it by mundane means so as not to reveal your draconic presence.

So it takes Lilli a couple days to find the place and put Alawi under direct surveillance.

Its a crackhouse obviously, an abandoned building used as a drug den and crash spot. Its set apart by its secure basement. Behind the normal, outer door is a reinforced steel one and what she can see of the walls they are reinforced as well on the inside.

She counts 6 vampires and figures about half of the addicts are also Red Court addicts in addition to being slaves to mortal narcotics.

Levi

Levi is confused by what is obvious demonic activity yet no sense of a demon. So he hunkers down and waits until the female human leaves in the morning for work and then follows the male human when he goes out later on. Its not hard since no one tends to notice a cat hiding under their driver's seat when it has the patience of an immortal.

Most of the day is uninteresting so he naps while the human is away at the grocery store and then returns home and goes out again on several more mundane errands.

But by late afternoon he goes to the country club and things get more interesting when he doesn't go in to the main hall or use the public entrances but instead parks up in the back and heads into the utility room.

Wizmous's head snaps up at Jack's question and her mismatched eyes burn with purpose, "Who am I?"

"Who am I???"

She takes a deep breath as her cat form begins to shimmer, "It was I who plundered the great pyramids at Giza. I who saved the fate of the knowledge of Alexandria. Great powers seek to keep magical treasures for themselves, but none are greater than I!"

Unconsciously, her form begins to revert to her more draconic guise. As she put her right paw down for emphasis, it metamorphosed to a cloven scaled hoof and the ground shook as if a giant tread the ground. Her tail, stiff with indignation, split in two; one half became serpentine, the other half resembling that of a lion. One of her rear legs now resembled the grotesque tentacle of something deeply aquatic, while the other now ended in a raptor-like claw. Horns sprouted from her head, mismatched and twisted. She brought her self up to her full height, now actually somewhat smaller than her cat form, and continued.

"For centuries have I better prepared to contain these. It is a grave insult to my hoard that one escaped, and it shall not do so again." The air beside her began to glow, a bright slit of light that warped the air around it, and a small box emerged and landed on the waiting palm of her remaining front limb, a pantheric paw.

"I am Wizmous, the Great, and the time is nigh for these coins to be put to rest. The powers within seek to corrupt and control, and thus having the power to contain them implies power greater still. They will be conquered, and at least this one may be conquered by me."

Having had her moment, her agitation seemed to decrease somewhat and her tone became more even and measured.

"Now, let us put this coin away in the reliquary I have prepared. Once within, its many wards and spells will prevent it from being called by those who tou..." she paused.

...

...

"Where is the coin?"

And there, in the dirt where Lux had dug, the blackened Denarius was nowhere to be seen. Wizmous stared at the empty space, and a cold fear washed through her as she realized that someone had touched the coin. Had summoned it to themselves. And it was entirely possible that that person was Molly.

If she was supposed to be impressed or in awe of the display put on by Wizmous, Lux wasn't. In fact, the only outward reaction the fallen one had was to glance over at the other cat with a subtle expression of 'Can you believe this crap?' before she looked at Wizmous again. That the object in question was missing by the time the chimera-cat was done with her speech was almost like the icing on a cupcake - just enough to make it all worthwhile.

Unable to stop herself, Lux began to laugh. Softly at first, but growing quickly, until she was practically vibrating with her mirth. "That's beautiful... not only did one escape from your hoard, but now one has escaped from right under your nose. Well, I believe after all that you've earned the coin. Good luck finding it again."

What she didn't say was that if she found it before Wizmous, there would be no equivocating over who got to keep it then.

I see. The mental words are quite calm but a slight shift in the tension of the cat's body and its expression hints at amusement. Then as the chimera has revealed her true form, Jack too pulls aside the veil, and the winged serpent - considerably smaller even than Wizmous - sits up on his hind legs, resting on his tail.

I have no love for those things and I will not have them loose around my territory, Jaculus continues, still addressing Wizmous. I will hunt it too, and whatever mortal has it. But I will not keep the coin.

Watching the Red Court, and the few dozen rotating addicts for a while, Lilli notices there are more overdoses than one would normally see. Getting close enough, she can tell that they are not actually overdoses Alawi and her gang are making it look that way. "Damn vampires," Lilli mutters.

She knew Lux wanted to at least know where Alawi was, and a much fun as it will be to take on the Red Court, Lilli figured that she shouldn't do so alone. After some contemplation, Lilli ran off to find at least Lux, and get any ally that she could find to take out this particular vampire.

Levi pads in behind the male human. Slipping behind a cleaning bucket he watches as the human traces a sigil, one he most definitely should not know, onto the back wall. A crack appears in the center and grows to the entire height of the wall. A faint grinding noise follows when the two halves slide aside. The scent of mold and stale air wafts out of the entrance.
The male dons a red and black robe from just inside the opening and precedes down a flight of earthen stairs that seems more grown than carved. Levi continues to marvel at this humans complete lack of observation skills as he casually saunters behind him to entire way down.
After what seems like an eternity, even to Levi, both stop in front of a large metal door patinaed green with age. The cultist delivers a series of knocks on the door and after a second a slit pulls back. "Password?" "The Tarnished Wings of Silver Fly Free."
Ugh. Why is every cult full of this over complicated pomp? The door is opened and Levi follows the moron through a hallway that leads into a large brick chamber full of cultists, lit candles, and way too much incense. He finds a pillar to hide behind and wait for the ritual to begin.
The ritual proceeds with the usual useless or needless chants, gestures, drawings, and such. Levi begins to think the male he followed must belong to more than one secret cult, as these people couldn't have ever been successful in reaching a demon, when real words of power and binding are heard. "Audi nos vero ingentem exercitum in unum. Hæc vasa tolle ieiuna, ut ambuletis sicut dominus orbem."
"Strange. They don't seem like the suicidally fanatical type of cultist.[i]" Levi lowers his head, puts a paw on it, and sighs. "[i]By The Lord, they didn't even bother to learn the language the ritual is in. Well, I guess that settles it, nobody gets out alive today."
As the chant finishes, Levi summons forth his power suddenly enveloping the chamber in pure darkness. The cult has just enough time to gasp before light returns and Levi is sitting in the middle of the chalk drawn circle, still in cat form. Seems you children have been naughty.

After the draconic divinity left the apartment, Stephen’s eyes returned to normal. Still covered in sweat from running, and shaking with fear and anxiety, he closes the door and covers his face with his hands. He glances back at the door, notice it was still intact… “So it was a dream?” he thought aloud.

“Dream or not, at its core it was real. What else do you think this night will reveal?” came a voice from on top of a bookcase. Chess was there, flicking a tail idly as he lounged. He turned his intelligent eyes and grin on Stephen. “Blood be on your face, so I must ask. Why wear you such a gruesome mask?”

Stephen looked startled as he looked down on his hands, still covered in blood. He started shaking again, and went to the bathroom to wash off his hands and face. His shirt was also covered in blood, so he threw that into the trash. He looked into the mirror at his haggard face and almost screamed when he saw something behind him in the mirror. A batlike face with an inhuman mouth filled with fangs topped a body gaunt with the exception of a distended belly. Black rubbery skin covered its body and its hands ended in cruel looking claws. It stared at Stephen in the mirror with hate filled eyes.

Stephen whipped around quickly in horror to find nothing but emptiness behind him. Turning back to the mirror there was nothing but his apartment. “What the hell was that thing?! What is happening to me?” he asked. He saw something in the corner of his eye and looked to the tub, where he saw Cheshire perched on the edge, cleaning his paws. “And what are you?”

Cheshire regarded his new emissary with amusement,

“Surely remember you your dreams?
The monster who stalks you, eyes agleam?
Your word you gave me, assurances given
Your life is mine, my precious Stephen

And so the monster is kept at bay
The mirror reminds you, lest you betray
Your word to me, as I have fulfilled
my end of the bargain, my will instilled”

Chess jumps down and rubs himself on Stephen’s legs, looking up at him with possessive eyes.

“A choice you have with the power given
The monster no longer controls you Stephen
So what will you do, now you have the strength
And the power to affect your fate, at length?

Stephen shakes his head, not quite believing that he’s talking to a cat, but a lot of fucked up things had happened tonight already. “Maybe I’m in shock,” he thinks. He splashed more water on his face. He grabs a shirt from a dirty pile on the couch and wrestles it on. His eyes on the cat, he heads out the door for a walk to clear his head. Chess follows, veiled to everyone except him. As he exits and gets to the top of the stairs outside his apartment, he stops in front of two police officers, just as startled as he at his appearance. One had his hand on the holster of his gun at his hip, the other addressed him directly, she asked, “Sir, would you come with us please? You were seen running from the scene of a crime and we would like to ask you some questions.”

“Am I under arrest?” he stammers, his bloodshot eyes not meeting hers, a quaver still in his voice.

“Not if you come willingly with us now,” she says, putting a hand on her cuffs at her waist. Stephen noticed a tension in both officers. He could see the blood pulsing at their necks, hear the pounding of their hearts. “That’s really unsettling,” he thought.

“Ah… okay, okay,” he manages. The officers escort him to a squad car and head to the station. Chess hops in right before the door is closed and settles himself in Stephen’s lap, purring contentedly.

Jack, Lux, Wizmous

Whatever the current status of the coin is, it is obvious that it is not nearby anymore and so the three dragons leave each others' company by the same means as they arrived.

Wizmous vanishes into the Nevernever along the ley line.

Lux pads back to her waiting human driver.

Jack watches closely to ensure they are gone from his territory.

Levi

By their reactions its clear these fools expected something to appear in the useless magical circle they have drawn and in a way they are lucky that Levi only intends to kill them. A demon who was free to do as it pleased would likely do much, much worse.

They did not expect a cat, however.

"A... er... well, yes." one stammers, "Is that you, lady?" he finally manages showing the typical human inability to tell the sex of a cat.

"No, my name is Leviathan. Princess Franchesca Floofy Boops sent me. You have been taking that which is not yours." Every human has a recurring nightmare, whether they remember it or not, they are floating in an expanse of water that stretches to the horizon. A massive, monstrous, thing is sensed below them coming swiftly upon the human prey. And just before the shadows peel back and the hidden horror is revealed, the human awakes. Levi is that horror and these humans will never awake again.

After the carnage and sweet, yet spicy clean up, Levi realizes he has been hearing sobbing mixed with prayers the enter slaughter. "Oh, great devourer, spare me and my eternal life is yours."

Convenient, thinks Levi. The Princess's pet properly fears me. "Do not worship me for I am only the hand of the Princess. You have strayed. But She is a generous and compassionate god. You will be given another chance. Continue to care for her as you did, but know my word will be obeyed as if a direct command from the most pretty of ones." Levi waits patiently a few minutes for a response. "Well, mortal!?"

"Oh,..of course hand of the Princess. Whatever you say."

"Good, now before you leave, who did you expect to summon with this foolishness, I would have words with them as well."

Curling up in her favorite spot in her church, Lux ruminated over the events of the day. This didn't end up going her way, at all. Not with the coin, and not with the former mortal she was trying to protect. Still, she couldn't allow her frustrations to get the better of her, not when she could find other ways to channel that energy.

Plus, regardless of her failure, she was now aware of three other dragons in the area. Knowledge which might come in handy later.

Finding Lux in her spot at the church, Nox hated to interrupt her friend; but the information about the Red Court couldn't wait.

"We can come up with a plan tomorrow," Nox says before running off. Before Nox got to where she was planning on going for the night Nox thought, now that Lux knew what was going on in the hideout, I feel a little better. Almost enough to go back and continue to observe these vampires. Deciding that's what she was going to do, Nox ran back to inform Lux, "I'll wait as long as I can, and I make no promises to not do anything without you." With that, Nox ran off. Back to the hide out, finding a spot where no one would notice her.
