Kimbo doesn't do pressers? Can't answer a few questions? At least give us the classic Rasheed Wallace "both teams played hard" answer.

According to North Korea, it's all good.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/north-kore ... -1.3971111

Dubbing it the start of a new relationship between their countries, which are still technically at war, Pyongyang's first reports Wednesday stressed to the North Korean people that Trump agreed at Kim's demand to halt joint military exercises with South Korea as long as talks toward easing tensions continue and suggested that Trump also said he would lift sanctions as negotiations progressed.

Wow - the art of the deal.

Trump on what he will say if things don't work out:

Honestly, I think [Kim's] going to do these things. I may be wrong, I mean I may stand before you in six months and say, hey, I was wrong — I don’t know that I’ll ever admit that, but I’ll find some kind of an excuse."

Refreshingly honest about his dishonesty for once.

I don't get why everybody thinks North Korea is going to start World War 3. They would need to have allies to do that.

One versus every other country is still a world war!

I am not confident that Trump wouldn't force us to ally with Kim against the rest of the world.

Bill Maher and John Bolton were doing it. I just wanted to be popular.

That he's hoping some disaster will happen soon so Trump and the GOP get voted out.

That's easy to say when you're a rich asshole.

Anyway, I know that it's diplomacy and all, but does Trump really need to praise Kim Jong-un that much? He said to Voice of America: "he’s got a great personality. He’s a funny guy, he’s very smart, he’s a great negotiator. He loves his people, not that I’m surprised by that, but he loves his people." On ABC news: "His country does love him. His people, you see the fervor. They have a great fervor. "

On Fox News, Bret Baier brought up that Kim is a brutal dictator:

Baier: You know you call people sometimes killers, he is a killer. He's clearly executing people.

Trump: He's a tough guy. Hey, when you take over a country, tough country, with tough people, and you take it over from your father, I don't care who you are, what you are, how much of an advantage you have. "If you can do that at 27 years old, I mean that's one in 10,000 that could do that. So he's a very smart guy, he's a grat negotiator. But I think we understand each other.

Baier: But he's still done some really bad things.

Trump: Yeah, but so have a lot of other people done some really bad things. I mean, I could go through a lot of nations where a lot of bad things were done.

Classic whataboutism. And the same kind of language he used back in 2016 when he praised Putin and Joe Scarborough brought up that Putin had journalists murdered.

So, is that really necessary? Did Nixon ever talk like that about Mao?

Seriously.

He's the wrong man at the right time.

Great, if this works out. But it couldn't have happened to a less-suited person. He's the Mr. Bean of international diplomacy.

I think it's just galling to hear him spinelessly fellating the heir to a truly disgusting, Orwellian state. Trump continues to betray the kind of people he adores - the jackbooted thugs of the world. Who knew, though, maybe making a deep, personal, self-illuminating connection with a dictator is the only way to get them to play ball.

I don't know about Nixon and Mao, but the most common "whatabouts" I've been seeing from Trump supporters are Obama bowing to the Saudis and Bush II saying this of Putin in 2001:

"I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue.

"I was able to get a sense of his soul.

"He's a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country and I appreciate very much the frank dialogue and that's the beginning of a very constructive relationship," Mr Bush said.

YMMV, but I don't find either comparison persuasive.
