Watching a promo for a BBC special celebrating the life and career of recently deceased British entertainer Bruce Forsyth, my girlfriend nudged me and asked what I thought the betting line would be on his being posthumously outed as a sex offender.
I realise this might fall a bit flat for those of you who aren't British, but I found it hilarious. The context is part of it. The BBC actually did this with the most notorious case of its kind in this country, that of Jimmy Savile. A 90 minute tribute to his life was aired shortly after his death, before the allegations started rolling in a few months later. It's not available through the company any more, I think, but a friend happened to have it recorded. It makes for incredibly eerie viewing today.
"Tusser, they tell me, when thou wert alive,
Thou, teaching thrift, thyselfe couldst never thrive.
So, like the whetstone, many men are wont
To sharpen others, when themselves are blunt."
Anyone who has any kind of opinion fucking disgusts me.
