I love
Wikipedia.
- In addition to love and marriage, Saint Valentine is the patron saint of epilepsy and plague.
- Nobody really knows who he was or what he did, but the most likely identity of Saint Valentine is that of a Roman bishop who was tortured and executed on this date in 269 CE. It's possible that he represents more than one early Christian named Valentinus who was executed by the Romans.
- The popular legends around him began with Chaucer, who just made a bunch of stuff up and pretended they were old traditions. Not coincidentally, he's much better known in western Europe and the Anglosphere than he is in the east.
- Two different popes supposedly gave Saint Valentine's authentic remains to two different churches. There are at least 9 other churches in Europe also claiming to have all or part of his remains.
