What you call guilty pleasure I call REGULAR pleasure

What do you listen to?

I like bubblegum pop songs that are sometimes cited as the worst songs ever, such as "Sugar Sugar" or "Yummy Yummy Yummy". I know they're incredibly stupid and have no artistic value whatsoever. But they're cheerful and catchy. I like that.

So something I noticed in passing. I remember hearing Tegan and Sara years ago, and I thought they were like an indie girl band. Then I heard something on the radio, and they said "next up, Tegan and Sara" and I did not recognize it at all. Did they totally switch stylistic gears and end up on the radio?

Not sure on the details, but I think their first few albums were folky, then they got more popular and did more pop-punky stuff, kind of new-wavey, and their latest album is very much pop.
I listen to the pop-punk stuff.

I see. Their hubris was their downfall. Carry on.

Certain Songs from Fall Out Boy, most particularly "This Aint a Scene it's an Arms Race" and "Sugar We're going Down". The Second one is mostly for one line "I'm just a notch in your bedpost/But you're just a line in a song". I've always loved that.

I also have a soft spot for certain Nu-Metal bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Five Finger Death Punch. I get a lot of crap for that from some people.

Some Nicki Minaj songs, plus I'd Lie by Taylor Swift (just that one, though).

O.O People consider Kate Bush a guilty pleasure? Someone who writes, sings and plays their own stuff and, AND is endorsed by Mr. David Gilmour is alright in my book man.

I'm generally feel no guilt for my Miley fandom, because hey, I like pop tunes. But amidst the whole VMA backlash, I'm keeping it a wee bit under wraps that her new single makes me weep.

I won't lie, when that one song she does about drugs comes on, I don't ever change the channel. Sometimes I even sing along.

Occasionally I'll hear a song on the radio that I've heard countless times before, and suddenly find myself paying close attention to the lyrics (depending on the song, I usually find myself either really liking it, disliking it, or amused). That happened the other day when this came on the radio, and now I'm a little obsessed with it:

  • I have a weakness for accordion music.
  • Experiments have shown that the sound of bagpipes will bring me running from up to two blocks away. I have all of this guy's albums.
  • I actually really liked U2's Pop and Zooropa albums.
  • Love Bullamakanka to bits.
  • Love my Billy Joel.
  • I am still not sick of the Llama Song.
  • I think Star Trekkin' by the Firm is awesome. Sorry AboveGL.

Oh, and that Robin Thicke song that is apparently single-handedly responsible for the oppression of every woman everywhere? I really like that song. And the film clip. Seriously, how the shit is that song any worse than like, every rap song ever?

The only music I actually feel guilty for enjoying is the Rumjacks. Not because of their music. The lead singer got thrown in jail for sexual assault, and every time I listen to their music now, I feel like I am somehow condoning violence against women. I really like their music though.

If you're into the accordion and bagpipes, you might like some parts of what was meant to be the worst song ever (but probably not the whole thing). Personally, I don't really mind accordions if they're used well (like in Kokomo by the Beach Boys, to name one song).

Also, Billy Joel's music is pretty good; quite a few memories of my childhood involve the album "River of Dreams" playing in the background (as well as other random songs of his from the radio).

The bagpipe bit of the "worst song ever" would have been pretty good if they hadn't set it to a completely discordant beat.

I love that song. Also a big fan of Only the Good Die Young and You May Be Right.
