I'm actually fine with most of these. I've never been a fan of big-name high-production-value porn, and camgirls certainly have a more... I don't know, "intimate" feel to them. The only drawback I see is having to wonder if the video you're watching is entirely on the level, and working conditions for performers (STI checks, fair pay, ability to back out, etc.)

As for the circus, I do have a fond memory of seeing an elephant at the circus when I was three, but that memory is a little tainted now knowing that elephant was probably miserable and lonely. Big animals are big for a reason, they evolved in an environment where there was enough space to sustain them. Though I am a little sad at the prospect of kids not being able to see exotic animals up close. I mean, most of you have probably never seen a buffalo up close, and I can tell you, that knowing what a buffalo looks like and having a grasp on the size of one is completely different from being able to feel the kind of raw power they exude, just staring you in the face.

I'm also cool with parade balloons going away. With our ever dwindling supply of helium, we've got bigger problems than balloons.

Edit: I should probably point out that I'm a total hypocrite when it comes to animal welfare. Because I don't like circuses, and I'm kind of on the fence about zoos, but you will take my rodeos from my cold, dead hands.

I think blimps and parade balloons should go back to using hydrogen.

Just to liven things up a little.

The title was changed to "5 Awesome Things That'll Be Gone Forever By, Like, Soon". Which is a good decision, because I don't think gay bars are a part of most people's daily lives.

I've never been to a circus, but I have always found zoos kind of depressing. I mean, if the animals are orphaned or captive bred and can't live in the wild and can't be placed in any special sanctuaries or nature reserves, then I guess the zoo is at least a place to keep them.
It's amazing how much helium we have just absolutely wasted. Don't we need it for superconductors and super magnets and other sciencey stuff?

That would be hilarious.

I went to a circus once as a child. They made me ride a pony, which cemented my fear of horses. I was already scared of heights and being unable to touch the ground atop a wobbly creature was horrifying to me.

Years later I found out about the rather poor treatment of animals in circuses and that Dumbo was more serious then I knew. I'm glad ciruses no longer have elephants.

As for zoos, I'm very pro-zoo. Well, pro good zoos, like the Smithsonian Zoo. Ones that research animal behavior and are constantly updating habitats to keep the animals enriched. Ones that are focused on conservation.

I'm kinda glad big name porn stars are a thing of the past, the idea of customized videos is interesting. I'm sad about photojournalism, but at the same time not surprised. Not horribly saddened by the balloons thing and I kinda like BR's suggestion. Add a bit of spice to the Macy's Day Parade. Will it blow up this year or won't it?

Kids, back in MY day we had balloons that floated in the air with a magical gas, lighter than air, called helium!!! Small balloons, huge cartoon shaped ones, ones that were FLYING SHIPS! But my biggest regret for you, dear children, is you shall never know the joy of huffing helium and sounding like a chipmunk for a minute or two.

So are we able to say things honestly without being judged and being called pervs among other things for what we say? I'm going to pretend we are, so here goes.

I miss the era of big name porn stars. I knew that if Little Oral Annie was going to be in a movie, I would be seeing a beautiful woman with gorgeous real breasts enjoying being treated like a piece of meat (She loved it, so she was using something she enjoyed to get money out of men to live out their fantasies, so she was basically using her sexuality to overpower the men in a way). Or seeing Melissa Hill's name on the case and know that I would be seeing an actually pretty talented actress with girl next door good looks preforming hardcore sex scenes.

But now? Every girl looks the same. They are either supposed MILFS (at age 22), blonde with big boobs or brunettes with too many tattoos going for the emo look. Don't even get me started on those girls that are supposed to be playing the "daughter" roles skiping Jr. High with big ass tramp stamps on their backs.

I've been talking to Ms. Hill and Jenteal (the last generation of porn STARS) the last few months on Twitter and elsewhere and it's time to take back porn. Good movies with decent scripts, real actors and actresses and most of all shot on film instead of videotape. Believe it or not, porn can have class but we won't ever get it back by having "Backdoor Bang Bus Confessions 32: How Many Dicks Does it Take To Make This Cunt Cry" type "movies".

LOL I know it sounds weird to be passionate about porn and honestly, I really have never watched much except for a select few performers. I think being friends with Melissa Hill and Jenteal, who while both are retired, have shown and talked with me about the work put into making adult films and how they took pride in the work they did. (I know a lot of people throw the word friend around about people online but when they DM you their phone numbers and real names, it's safe to say they are friends and someone they respect and trust). I have just thought that there is a great deal of money on the table for a lot of people to go back to the old ways of doing adult. (Let's be honest, everything still comes down to money, even art. Any artist that says otherwise is just an unsold artist trying to justify not getting a real job lol)

I would go back to the era of the "Vivid/Wicked Girls" type thing, just not tying them down to one studio. But to bring back the name selling the videos instead of the director or how disgusting they make the product. For example, the movie "Bad Wives" is just a good of a movie edited as it is in it's full XXX glory and even better than movies like "Poison Ivy" or "Showgirls". You can make a movie just as hot as anything you can find and not need to have a woman subjugated to a gallon of cum by having actors that can make the scene feel real. Remember, I'm not a feminist in any way shape or form (well, new style feminist that is) but having a woman used just as a tool for the guys in the video to get off on makes the entire thing about the guy and his pleasure. Making it more about a couple or multiple couples can bring in double the viewers. Then there's the factor that there aren't a lot of videos made for women. I don't mean just lesbian films (which still are basically predicated on the male fantasy of lesbians, just two women doing things men want to see) but just like there are videos of just BJ's, why aren't there videos of just women being given oral by men? To me it would make the fantasy even better because not many men can measure up to the men in porn downstairs but giving oral evens the playing field so to speak. Not to mention I myself know plenty of women that would love to see their avatar in the movie being the center of attention and being given what not many men are willing to do for very long.

Sorry if this offended anyone, I tried not to be too graphic but these are just a few of the ideas I have to try and bring us back to the days when a movie like "Deep Throat" could be played in theaters and make millions of dollars and not be stuck on a website where someone says "Cheap Whore Gags On 10 Horse Cocks".

Rowdy you're not being offensive at all. The subject you're discussing is considered crude and low brow, but you're not talking about it in an offensive, vulgar, or graphic manner. To put it rather crudely, even though you're speaking of porn, you're speaking with your head and heart not with your groin. Porn is something which influences most of us, so it shouldn't be completely taboo to discuss. It's also apparently relevant to this Cracked article (I haven't actually read the article yet).

The fact that you have so much respect for the performers that they want to be personal friends with you is great. Although you don't identify as feminist this makes you more "feminist" than many people. We need more men who think like you do, not less.

As for the apparent decline of this industry, I would guess it's the fault of AIDS. The 60s and 70s were unusually open about sexuality, but with the rise of STDS came the rise of fear. It's also probably due to a cultural shift. A lot of men and women enjoy things you consider degrading. Some think it's sexy to be objectified.

The film you use as a positive example, Deep Throat, was rather controversial at the time. Many feminists were strongly against it, and against the adult film industry on principle. Now what people would consider extreme is different, things change.

Didn't the article make the opposite argument? That due to the rise of the Internet, porn is becoming custom-made and personalized? That you'll be able to get stuff made only for you?

While I appreciate your stance Rowdy I can't say I agree just because I have never found "professional" porn to be attractive. I do think it shouldn't disappear strictly because of people who probably do enjoy it. Personally I would rather watch people who sincerely are enjoying themselves than people who are paid to be "sexy". It feels fake and I don't care for that. This same kind of thought is what I like about reading porn as well or why fiance has to be in the mood or it just kills it for me.

Its difficult for me to be happy when I am watching people who aren't legitimately happy.
