6 Reasons Online Dating Will Never Lead To Love

Postby octoberpumpkin » Thu Jun 04, 2015 4:44 pm

http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-reasons-o ... d-to-love/

So this is an article about how online dating will never lead to love.

No offense to people who have found their partners on online dating sites, I'm very glad it worked for you, but it has never been for me personally. A big factor for me is the connection and romantic feelings, and that's something they just can't gauge on an online dating site. They can match compatibility, but if the feeling isn't there, it doesn't matter how much or little we have in common. And it kind of makes me sad because right now I'm in the happiest, most fulfilling relationship I have ever been in, but if we had both been on the same dating site, we never would have been matched up. And that makes me sad to think I would have missed out like that.

With that being said, we did actually meet online, on a video game forum!

Anywho not meant to be a jab at people who use dating sites or anything, everyone needs to find what works best for them! They just aren't for me

I couldn't tell if the comments on this article were genuine or if the spambots had gotten better at spelling (though I suspect the former).

(Presumably, the only way to stop a bad guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law is a good guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law, and thus transgender-friendly privacy law rights need to be enshrined in the Constitution as well)

I know I'm a weird person, but I'm somewhat afraid of commitment (though I've been in a serious relationship for a long while), and the thought of someone coming to me with the specific intention of dating is scary.

That being said, I have met my boyfriend over World of Warcraft, so I'm no better.

I personally loved the article. It's very well written and insightful, but the title is very clickbaity and I imagine many people are going to complain about it. Granted, online dating websites aren't the only places you can find your potential significant other on the internet. The article made a good point that most relationships nowadays start online, and not "online dating websites" specifically. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Runescape, Cracked, The Comment Section, Pornhub, etc., basically anywhere on the Internet could be a potential meeting place where you could meet your future husband or wife.

Boy, imagine the shock on your friend's face if you tell them you met your significant other on a porn website.

Considering that the only time I'd ever consider approaching a guy who I found attractive would be if lives literally depended on it (as in, if a psychopath was threatening to drown a bag of puppies if I didn't ask the guy on a date), if online dating doesn't work, then it looks like I'm going to need to freeze my eggs.

Those Cadbury Creme Eggs are only out around Easter, after all, and I'm going to need chocolate to deal with the loneliness. What did you think I was talking about?

I met my girlfriend through the Cracked comments section. We lived in different states, but we had a connection. You'd be surprised how long it can take to convince someone to move away from a shit town in Georgia with a 23% unemployment rate when she has family there.

You can't buy creme eggs all year round in Leftpondia? How bizarre.

Yeah I agree with the premise that finding love on dating sites is very difficult. Just like in real life, you're more likely to find people you connect with while doing things that you enjoy doing than at a "singles club". I know quite a few people who have met their significant others while playing online RPGs, music forums or other groups, but I know absolutely nobody in a lasting relationship that met over online dating - not that it can't work, but I think for a younger, straight age-bracket it's pretty unlikely.

Btw, I talked to a gay friend about this. He said he uses this kind of website because he's afraid of asking if someone's gay or not.

People from our social circle tend to be pretty tolerant, and wouldn't mind being asked even if they were straight. But he got shit given to him once and got scared.

I don't get people who meet a girlfriend/boyfriend doing things they like. I've never met a single person in my life who wants to date me and I do plenty of things I like. I'm lucky if I encounter anyone who even wants to tolerate being my friend. Who the hell are all these people who have people throwing themselves at them constantly? Apparently it's the vast majority of humanity.

The title pisses me off as it is objectively not true.

http://www.okcupid.com/success

I mean, even if only 1 out of a 100 of those stories were true, it would still negate the title. Come on Cracked, you can't just say never. Didn't Fievel teach you anything?

When I get drunk and lonely, I join dating sites, and shortly delete them afterwards. It is very easy to find gay men on dating sites, but they generally just want sex. With I am okay with, but I agree, finding love is hard. Women are so overwhelmed by requests that they have no ability to pick out the creepy dude from a nice lad. Guys are so disappointed by lack of messages that they end up being bitter.

I do agree with your gay friend, Playboy Pikachu. In an environment where it is totally not okay for me to ask if someone is gay, it is so much nicer when whether they are or not is right there on their profile page.

I will likely not find someone where I am geographically, but online I might, it is tempting to look at dating sites, but I have found so many friends on forums like this, it is quite possible that one day I will find love. I just need to wait until Notch is ready to admit that he loves me and is also gay and unmarried.

...It is only a matter of time.
