What the fuck are the cops planning to do when #3 - using people's real names and photos to create Facebook profiles - causes an innocent person to get hunted down and murdered in some horrible fashion?

Oh hey, I kinda liked this one. The patches were absolutely hilarious, and made me laugh for the first time in a long time while reading Cracked. Dat scorpion bro.

There seemed to be more than enough information to sustain my interest throughout and it was well written as well. There were a couple of things I'd have worded differently but nothing glaring or worth complaining about. I think this is a good article and I'm annoyed that the new layout placed it so low on the front page that I didn't see it until you linked it.

I've seen decent articles based on flimsier premises than the patches ALONE. Those things are INSANE.

Oh man, you really don't even want to get me started on the DEA.

I read about the woman who they impersonated on FB. Let's not even talk about how they completely defamed her character...they could have gotten her killed. And I'm completely against CIs in general. It's very dangerous. Look at Rachel Hoffman. Granted, she was a local police informant and not DEA but still.

Of course my favorite DEA fuck up was when they almost killed a guy by locking him in a cell and forgetting about him.

They've destroyed trucks and not been held accountable, have had their informants straight up commit murder, and god knows what else.

So, I don't like the DEA is what I'm saying.

Edit: Oh yeah, I did enjoy this dalek.

On the contrary, if you write something, please share it here, especially if it's something you're proud of. I don't read Cracked regularly any more, I only read it from time to time for certain articles that are discussed here, so I'm glad you shared it since I wouldn't have read it otherwise, and I think it's a good article.

Anyhow, I'm quite a fan of this sort of article (and not much a fan of the police, the criminal justice system in America, or the war on drugs), and likewise I quite enjoyed this article. It was interesting, funny, and well written.

But what about the Punisher!

I mentioned this in IRC but I'll repeat it here, I loved that article. The patches really illustrate the problem with militarization of police here. I understand why the guys involved do it but seriously when I see military style patches on police I'm probably not going to be comforted by their presence.

Congrats on the article. I thought it was a fun read and as someone who is drawn to stories about corruption and bizarre features of powerful groups, I like that you took this topic on. I'm curious about your actual feelings on the patches entry or whether those were actually expressed in the article.

The reason I ask is that for me it was somewhat strangely endearing that the DEA used so many crazy and in a way childishly creative visuals. It just made me picture a bunch of kids pretending to be cops and trying to come up with the most badass things they could imagine and ending up with the Reaper in a coke storm and a scorpion with headphones (though on first glance they made me think of sunglasses). Everything else about the DEA being described made me want to pull my face off in frustration (I remember reading about the FB operation and actually being kind of angry), but the patches actually made me smile.Do I just have an unnatural soft spot for scorpions and coke storms?
