Bleddyn taps Eliver on the arm and gestures towards some of the ladies of the court. Llewella is amongst them, and smiling in their direction - or rather in Bleddyn's.

"Alright then." El's never found the company of ladies particularly enthralling, but partly for his friend's sake and partly because he can't deny that it would be sensible to become better acquainted with some of them, he goes with Bleddyn to speak with them.

Just then, a row erupts. Persidius is in the middle of it, arguing with an older knight who's no doubt run afoul of the young Roman's iron convictions on what is right. Not that Eliver can fault Persi's opinions, but it's always seemed to him that it must be rather tiresome to worry so much about whether everyone else shared them. He'd rather live and let live, himself.

The Earl intervenes, and a duel is arranged for the morrow. Persidius is a good swordsman, so hopefully he'll be equal to the challenge. El will certainly be there to watch, and lend his friend moral support.

Terrwyn perks up at the sound of the quarrel, but is surprised to see the rather mild-mannered Persidius being one of the participants. She hears the earl declare a duel to be held the next day and her mind starts working furiously. Whether Persidius likes it or not, Terrwyn is going to insert herself into this >.>

Accordingly, after both the parties have settled down, around half an hour later, Terrrwyn quietly slides over to Bregen's table and smiles her smile at him :) "That was sort of awesome, what you did," she whispers, finding a spot beside him. "Here's a drink to Wayford's defeat tomorrow, hm?" Terrwyn continues to sneakily make him drink more cups throughout dinner where possible. "Haha, you're funny! Hey, we will need another jug here, please. Thanks" ^^

However, when the knight finally blinks and squints around him as the tables are cleared, possibly in hopes of scoring one for that night, Terrwyn is nowhere to be found in the hall. She is certainly no stranger to finding dark and solitary spots at Sarum's castle but Sir Bregen is not quite whom she has in mind for fun :P

"Brutus was descendant of Prince Aeneas, conqueror of Italia and forefather of the Roman people through his descendant Romulus," Persidius retorts evenly," And gladly I am not your student or I would be ashamed of your lack of manners."

He finds the Earl's judgement to be fair and customary and beds down for the night thinking of Lady Elaine and wondering what got into him to let things go this far. Sir Bregen is is of his own station, it would have been simple to defuse the situation between equals. But now he risks the very means of holding the station he only just attained.

Persidius looks around for his few friends then for Lady Elaine and tries to meet her eyes. He looks for a sign in them that he has chosen the right course. He is not so proud that he can't admit he was wrong and retract his challenge. Wagging tongues don't bother him when they wag about him. But he cannot stand idly by while those unable to ward themselves with iron are disparaged.

The lady whose honor is in question is hiding on the sidelines in timidity. When the crowd disperses and Persidius meets Elaine's eyes, he can just about see a smile creep up at the edge of her lips, before she is escorted by her friends back to the Solar for the night.

Bleddyn for one, is quite glad that El is with him.

He approaches Llewella and the ladies she is with. He nods at them and attempts to be courtly, "L-Llewella, f-fair l-ladies, t-this is E-eliver, a f-fellow kn-knight w-who w-was a-a s-squire w-with m-me a-and o-one o-of t-the b-brave w-warriors w-who a-a-a-feck it-killed t-the g-great b-bear."

If he has a chance he'd love to speak with Llewella a bit more and continue to get her favor. Maybe he'll share the story of how his sister Tegan once mended a hole in his breeches...and "accidentally" sewed in stinging nettle leaves as well because the falcon he was training dropped a rabbit on her skirt. Eliver used to rather like that story. Bleddyn thinks on it and wonders if that story of a spiteful sister is what made Eliver a bit more careful and reserved in his interactions with women. He tries not to chuckle to himself when he thinks if that were the case, Tegan would find far too much humor in it. Then he wonders if she's carefully inserted nettles into her current embroidery. He then remembers she gave a handkerchief as a gift to a recent suitor-an older widower. She was smiling queerly as she did so. Sure she may have actually been happy to receive such a potential suitor but that smile...

He resolves to be as courteous as possible this evening. He does not ever want to get a nettle laced handkerchief.

Bleddyn get's to talking with Llewella again, and despite his stammer, he finds speaking to her is easier than other people, perhaps because he doesn't fear her judgement for speaking incorrectly, perhaps he is developing feelings for the girl. She seems to enjoy the story, her perfect breast heaving in silent laughter, covering her perfect mouth even though there is no need to, perfect eyes, perfect everything, perfect...yes. There's something there that wasn't there before.

Bleddyn has gained a new passion, Amor (Llewella).

"We know who you are, Sir Eliver" says one of the non-mute ladies among a small crowd of gigglers, at Bleddyn's introduction. As usual, it is the man's role to make the first move in courtship.

Re: [Pendragon RP] 485 Adventure - "Bête Noire"

Postby Scarik » Fri Jul 07, 2017 10:45 pm

The cold bites him in rings through his arming jacket where the iron of his maille presses close in the cold dawn, but Persidius shakes it away. His focus lays entirely across the snowy courtyard with Sir Bregen of Stonetown with his sowrd drawn and shield hefted.

Persidius raises his own sword in salute and kisses the bronze rim of his shield, "Virgin of War protect me and guide me with Your Virtue," he whispers in Latin.

Both men advance, their careful footwork making the vestigal snows swirl about their ankles until they are within two paces of each other. At that point Persidius thinks of Elaine's frightened cast and he draws back in a ferocious blow. But it is too far and his shield dips too much and Sir Bregen siezes the moment. A pair of unanswered strikes half turn his shield and then strike him hard across his ribs on the right side. He feels himself spilling backward, the marvelous shield nearly yanking him around to stave off the blow, and by Fortune alone he slides to one side and keeps his feet.

And with his legs under him his mighty stroke continues downward and into the collar of his opponent where a crash of iron barely hides the crack of bone. Sir Bregen slips backward and falls hard to the frozen earth where he cries out with a spread of crimson welling up in his breast.

Persidius waits a heartbeat and is shocked to see Bregen grit his teeth and clamber to his feet, "Yield, Sir," Persi says only loud enough for the two of them to hear, but Bregon is a lion and he rights himself just in time for a stiff, but controlled, blow to catch him once more in the chest.

The older knight then spills back to the ground and Persidius gives thanks to the Lady of War for staying his hand and not raising his blade the inch it would have needed to find purchase in his adversary's throat.

Once more Persidius waits and is impressed to see his foe still lively, but this time he throws down his sword and coughs, "Mercy!" Without a thought the Roman steps away and holds out his sword for Elinor and his shield for his younger brother.

He watches while the chirurgeon rushes in and the litter bearers take Sir Bregen away. He is relieved to have won and proved his ideals were not misplaced and glad to have done it without having killed his opponent.

Days later he learns that Sir Bregen had succumbed to his wounds that Sunday and he falls heavily onto his bench with remorse. "He was a lion who could not lay down with the lamb," he says mostly to himself before calling Elinor over. "Take his maille and sword and shield as well as his rouncey and deliver them to Stonetown. Ride his horse there and ride the one I have provided you back so that you can return easily today."

Persidius wins the seasonal respect of the court with his prowess and generosity, an almost untried young man felling an older knight in one blow. Both fought valiantly, mercy was shown though one was slain, and the roman showed generosity in his victory to the family of his dead opponent. In these times, honor is not a concrete ideal as it will later become, but all are in agreement that Persidius has achieved it. His prowess has not escaped notice of the well-to-do's of the court, at a later date Sir Amig has him pulled aside to propose a union of their houses, between his third born son Sir Pamigen and Persidius' sister Tatiana. The ladies of the court have not ignored his valor in combat or his dedication to kindness in courtly mores which originated the duel. Adwen is of course impressed on principle, whereas Elaine is more personally grateful.

As she sees the seriously injured knight being carried away to the chirurgeon, Terrwyn starts feeling pretty bad. She didn't have to "help" Persidius at all, of course. He is great at swordplay, and she forgot all about his family shield. Sending a quick prayer up for Bregen, Terrwyn kneels down and hugs his little boy. Perhaps she will make him her squire when he is older.

As Terrwyn heads into the castle with the rest, she feels the familiar guilt and worries start up again. She needs to get a spouse soon. Sure, she technically has all the time in the world, and it is not uncommon for knights to marry late, but she doesn't have much of a family to fall back upon for support in dire times, and she would like one ^^

Half of Terrwyn's peers already seem likely to marry soon anyhow. Bleddyn seems to have a special attachment to that Llewella woman, and Persidius certainly isn't going to face too much difficulties with finding a suitable wife now, after his heroics. Eliver might be shy as always, but surely he will manage, with that talkative nature, and having slain some stupid bear <.< Arcadia will hopefully be alright, she has achieved the most glory out of them all, and Terrwyn has a slight feeling Sir Amig seems to favour her, which would be wonderful if it were true, a great match in all honesty =)

If she was being real, Terrwyn did not have much experience with this courting business, especially not with men. And they are supposed to take the lead? Aaagh. That little thing last night was a fluke, Terrwyn only did it out of a combination of boredom, friendship and the need to meddle :P She doesn't actually want to have to go after guys. She would commit some social blunder and then what would happen? Exactly!

Terrwyn feels super annoyed now. She is not going to take any more of this, YA HEAR THAT BRAIN? She is gonna put an end to this uncertainty right now! Persidius duelled for that Lady Elaine. Or his ideals. Or something. Well, she is going to do the same! But maybe possibly, the court would frown on her fist-fighting some twit in a gown, Terrwyn thinks. No matter! She will ask the men themselves! Nothing is better than the direct approach, she feels :D

To that end, Terrwyn stands up and looks around the hall. Her gaze falls on Sir Jaradan, surrounded by giggling ladies. He is supposed to be some master swordsman or something, no? >.> Let's test that, mister! Terrwyn starts walking before she can think on it and and not go through it. This mood is really ruining her winter fun dammit. And even if she loses (most probably) Terrwyn would at least gain some confidence, and not sit around anymore like the aforementioned twits in gowns.

"Er, excuse me Sir! (Fuck, what am I doing? No no be brave) Er that is to say, I will see you on the duelling field, yes?!" Terrwyn realises that some people are possibly staring at her now, not to mention the man in question himself. She tries to elaborate. "For your hand. In m-marriage, that is. (what?! nooo) I hear you are an excellent swordsman, so that is why... (shut up!) *clears throat* Just for the love of fighting, really. Practice swords, yes? Neither of us wants to go the way of poor Sir Bregen, surely. ^^ That is of course, if you accept. Actually I do not blame you in the slightest if you don't, you will just be a giant chicken! Also, my name is Terrwyn." :)

Everyone is suddenly very interested, and no one is quite sure if Terwynn is joking or not. Jaradan considers the offer seriously, to the surprise of the giggling ladies in his company. He rubs his jaw of hammered marble, eyes swooping up and down her face and figure, sizing up his opponent or making a more 'traditional' male assessment, perhaps both. "You're proposing a challenge with bated swords, and that we should wed should you beat me, have I got that right? What do I win should you lose?"

Whoo boy. Terrwyn feels unsure again, and wonders if she should pass it all off as a jest of some sort. But pride makes her keep going. "I have this really precious, old dagger that looks lovely and is very sharp..." (stop sounding like a merchant!) Terrwyn looks at her friends for some support, then looks back at Jaradan. "In any case, you will get the glory! ^^ and I wouldn't really force you to the altar you know :P it's just some fun! If you want, ask your price! I don't see the harm in considering it" :)

"What? (ew!) but what's wrong with the dagger?" (you idiot, wouldn't you get way more kisses if you married him? yeah, tell me that now brain >.<) "Um, okay. That is okay by me," Terrwyn states reluctantly.

"Then I accept" he says to a cavalcade of hoots and hollers. "The courtyard, in an hour, sir Terwynn?" he says rising from his seat, presumably to go off and make himself ready.
