At the lady's pavilion

Rashad enjoys the repast in spite of his watchfulness, which goes unrewarded. After a while, when even Leufroy appears to have had his fill, he thanks the lady Giselle again and turns to his companions.

"Should we press on, perhaps? Or do any of us wish to rest a little longer - if it would not impose on our gracious hostess?"

Or rather, did they ought to wait and see if this mysterious knight returns, or get away from this rather curious situation, to where they can talk more freely and decide if they would try to track the stranger down?

"Oh, today's journey has been far too long already - I should wish to make camp right here and now!" says Dagobert, sounding not the least bit tired. "Then, also, we might happen to meet this mysterious paramour with the green banner!"

Hecate follow, nose, teeth, and claws at the ready. Kobolds tasted horrid, but she'd chew through them to keep her lady safe.

Adele thanks lady Giselle again. "I say we press on."

Looking at Leufroy, "maybe it's a good idea to rest a while longer."

Alright, for those of you at the pavilion, who wants to stay and who wants to leave? And if the vote is half and half, would you be splitting the party?

Coenwulf, Ragnar, Renier

Both Ragnar and Renier find the folk to be helpful and happy to show them a few, stocky cattle with wolf bites. The wounds look normal size but the fact that they are on cattle is surprising. Something is certainly out of the norm when even hungry wolves attack anything bigger than a lamb.

The commoners have all sorts of remedies and suggestions for what to do next but none of them seem to make much sense to any of the knights.

The only thing they can say that is obviously of use is that a man from the village took two of the injured cattle to Esneux and married a local girl there last week.

"To Esneux then." Which is... where they were planning to go before anyway? He must remember to thank Sir Wulfram for the huge waste of time. <.< "Let's get going."

Yay we're getting ever so close Funk! Just missing each other here and there =) Hold on to your hat

Shadi votes to stay. She plans to stay even if some of the others go.
"What a fine meal, my lady," Sadi says once she's eaten a polite portion.

Rosamund, Hecate

As they make their way up the hills on foot as they are too steep to ride, the preternatural darkness deepening with every step, there's a feeling in the air that seems a little off. Its not just the light that dims, but the other senses as well. Hecate notices it first when the stench of the kobolds thins and soon she can only tell that they are near, but not which direction. Her ears are afflicted as well with the sharpness of hooves against hard earth dulling into a steady thud like a maul driving a post.

Rosamund is focused on the shadows and soon finds the canopy and the brush seems so think that the light is like twilight even though the dawn was bright and yellow when they started.

When they reach the first of the rocky mounds along their path they are wary of ambush but all that happens as they pass is a steady chill creeping into their bones.

From this point on all Awareness rolls are at -10.

And its scary as Hell and treated like a monster. Roll Valorous, if you succeed roll Prudent, if you fail roll Cowardly. If you succeed Prudent then you may continue cautiously or backtrack. If you fail Prudent, roll Reckless. If you succeed Reckless then you press on boldly into the darkness with rather less caution. If Cowardly succeeds you check it but may then roll Prudent as above.

Coenwulf, Ragnar, Renier

It's dark and Esneux is half a day off so the villeins offer the use of the cattle barn to the knights. Its the only building that can accommodate horses. It has an adjoining common house as well that the villagers use when the weather is cold to save on firewood.

They keep the sheep and goats inside with them these days for fear of the wolves. Normally they would only do that when the weather grew cold, both for themselves and the animals.

Taking the offer they bed down for the night.

Its just before midnight when Renier stirs and thinks he heard voices. He checks and it seems it was nothing, all is quiet and dark.

In the morning, as they ready to leave, several men approach them. At their head is none other than the pilgrim they met a day ago.

"Forgive me, good sirs," the pilgrim says, "My deception before was not born of malice, but of caution. There are bandits about in these woods and fae beasts besides, but the worst monster of all is Sir Eingar of Eingarkeep. He is a Godless man who consorts with the devil and he will surely seek to hinder your good cause. "

Renier looks at his two cousins. Are they all thinking the same thing? Could Sir Eingar be the 'black dog' they seek?

He turns to the pilgrim. "No harm done, good man. My thanks for the warning. Can any one of you show us the way to the castle?"
