"We did not mean to interrupt you, milady. We were merely escorting the lady Ermeline when we overheard you playing."

He looks again at the green banner and his eyes narrow.

"The banner is unfamiliar to me. Is it yours?"

Renier, Ragnar, Coenwulf

The hermit scratches his head as he looks over the small group. "Haven't seen any other travelers on this road today. Perhaps your friend went up through the woods, though I wouldn't recommend it." He leaned slightly closer, his voice dropping to more of a whisper. "Dangerous place, those dark woods. Fouls beasties and things most men wouldn't get caught speaking of in there. Heard tell even some animals avoid it... they say faeries live in there, but they aren't the nice kind, if y'get my drift."

Dagobert, Leufroy, Adele, Rashad, Shadi

The woman offers the assembled a smile as she looks at Sir Shadi, acknowledging her question first. "I am Giselle, good sir," she murmurs, before turning to address Sir Dagobert. "It does not surprise me that you are unfamiliar with the banner, it is the arms of my beloved." She perks up at the mention of Lady Ermeline, standing to offer a curtsy. A brief flash of what could be recognition dances through the eyes of the lady, though she simply nods in response to the polite gesture.

"Are you passing through, or do you have need of a rest?"

"Your beloved is a stranger to these parts then?"

"We were travelling through the woods when we came upon a small path. Thinking it a shortcut we left the road; after only a little while we heard music playing and came upon your pavillion."

Rosamund may be part-faerie herself and a master of the sword, but these woods sound quite troubling. "Have you been in there before then?"

Dagobert, Leufroy, Adele, Rashad, Shadi

"You are quite the curious one, aren't you, Sir?" Giselle lobbies back in a gentle tone. "And that does not answer my question. If you have been traveling for a bit, and would like refreshments, I could provide some for you."

Renier, Ragnar, Coenwulf

"Aye, once," the man answered, giving an involuntary shiver. "Never again. They stole me pup." He sounds sad, as though the loss still haunts him.

Dagobert's eyes narrow momentarily, but he is soon all delight and courtesy.

"You must forgive my curiosity, my lady; I take some joy in learning the arms of foreign knights, is all. He is from Brabant, then? Or Champagne, perhaps? We have our own provisions, but would be grateful for the company."

Rosamund & Hecate

After the sudden disappearance of the kobold very little strange happens as Rosamund leaves the hermit and heads east into the woods. With the flooding of the river its difficult to find a path so until dawn she must pick her way slowly through heavy growth relying on Hecate's superior senses to lead the way.

When the sun finally does rise Rosamund is glad to see that it does so infront of her. She doesn't figure she's gone very far, but at least she was going east.

As the sun breaks above the eastern hills the trees cast long, dark shadows all around her and the air stay cold well past mid-morning. So deep are the pools of darkness that even the squirrels and chirping birds seem sinister as they watch knight and hound pass.

"Madam Giselle," Shadi says, straightening and nodding. "We would not impose upon your hospitality, but it is true that we have been on the road some little while. If it is no trouble to you then we might stop a while and rest. Might we then have the pleasure of meeting the one so fortunate as to have won your heart?"

She's not quite sure why the others have chosen deception over honesty about their quest, but she's not about to spoil things by blurting out the truth.

Dagobert, Leufroy, Adele, Rashad, Shadi

The lady laughed, the sound reminiscent of bells, gesturing for them to make themselves comfortable. "Please, sit. I'll have my servants bring us refreshments. And perhaps, if we're lucky, my beloved will be along shortly. He went hunting in the woods, so I am not sure how long he might be gone for."

While it was certainly possible that Giselle wasn't being entirely truthful, she quickly moved to get some libations before she could be questioned further.

Ragnar raises a pale eyebrow.

"Your pup, good man?" he says.

Ragnar

"Alas, yes," the Hermit says sadly, "The abbot gave him to me when I left to do my hermitage here several winters past. He made the first snow much more pleasant but by summer the kobolds came, tore up my hut and took him away. I've not seen him since."

Dagobert puts on a gay face - laughing and jesting as if at a ducal feast - but is careful not to drink or eat of anything but his own provisions.

Shadi

All smiles and cheer, Shadi happily accepts the hospitality offered. Though she does ask for non-alcoholic beverages, she'll not refuse wine if it's all that's on offer - after all, a good guest has a responsibility not to offend a host.
