Honing her focus until the job is done, Elspeth swiftly turns from her unconscious foe to the second ceorl.

Blackwater

Although he is now beginning to suffer pangs in his shoulder from overexertion, Miles retains the Warrior's attention and holds him cannily at spear-length while Eliver is free to fell a noble Thegn. Leiryn crushes the pomel of his sword into the unprotected skull of a ceorl, and lifts his sword up to rightly end another Ceorl laying on the deck, but he misses and instead manages to get his blade stuck in the side of the ship. Elspeth knocks her own Ceorl mightily to the ground with a gash in the shield-arm, but has not robbed the sea wolf of his spirits and he soon attempts to clamber up to return the favor. Terwynn sends a warrior groaning to his knees, but lets her sword slip from her fingers when moving to dispatch the ceorl beside him.

Lincoln

Blunder of blunders, no sooner has Bleddyn drawn his sword then it slips out of his grip and beyond his reach in the mud below, and the sword of his enemy slips past his shield to wound him again. In the inverse, Persidius and Emrys both incapacitate their enemies in a pair of lucky strokes.

The duke's squire is now mounted, and the pair begin to spur their horses in the other direction, erring on the side of discretion.

With a quick look at the situation Persidius calls out "Southwick!*, relieve Barleyfield, I am after the Duke!"

Persidius spurs after the fleeing lord while keeping his sword low. He has no wish to harm the Duke, but neither does he intend to risk rearming if the man turns toward him suddenly.

When he gets in range he shouts, "At ease, my lord. I have no intention of harming your person. I only wish to talk!"

Moments later he sees they intend to make for the forest and with all the sped he can coax out of his tired warhorse he pulls along side his quarry.

Sheathing his sword he stays outside combat reach and calls out an oath, "Excellency, I come only to speak, by the Four Evangels I swear that I will do you no harm. Please end this conflict that neither of us wished for."

*Lesser Wicheford being south of Greater Wicheford and Southwick sounds better than Littlewick to me.

With a wordless cry of triumph, Eliver cuts the Thegn deeply on the arm. It doesn't look a mortal wound, but blood was already beginning to pool around the Saxon's feet, and the fresh stream running from the new injury is apparently enough to tip the balance, for a moment later he topples onto the stained and sticky planks.

El spares only a moment to satisfy himself that his foe is truly no more threat - if not dead, then soon to be - before turning to the Warrior who had tried to blindside him before being accosted by Miles. The big knight seems to be holding his own, but looks exhausted, as well he might.

He doesn't hesitate, but hurls himself at the Saxon, throwing caution to the winds in hopes of bringing him down before he can do Miles any further harm.

Miles, seeing Eliver coming to his aid, aims his spear at his opponent's sword arm in an effort to disarm him.

Elive seems to have given way to fury, and Miles feverishly hopes that it won't make him careless. Or worse, unlucky.

Somehow, despite the frantic pace of the battle, he spots something glinting on his lover's finger.

Spear, defensive, same Warrior.

Lincoln

"The four what!?" barks his Grace, Sir Corneus the Duke of Lindsey, the second most famous pagan in Logres after Merlin. He doesn't slow his horse, in fact spurs it on and tries to pull away from Persidius.

Then, at breakneck gallop, his charger falls afoul of a briarpatch and sends him hurtling off the front end, into a muddy ditch. Persidius is able to circle around him easily. "Father!" calls out his squire, unless some other suitably aged gentleman has just arrived on the scene, Persidius will have to infer he means Sir Corneus. He leaps off his horse to make sure he's unharmed, which despite a few bumps and bruises, and a decent caking of mud, he appears to be. With Persidius hovering over them as he is, it is apparent to them that they don't stand hope of escaping. "Do what you want with me, but let the boy go, you here me? He's no quarrel with you or your king."

Peridius reigns in his horse with his hand on his sword hilt. He is furious with the events of the day, sweating and covered in blood when he meant only to be a messenger.

"Sir," he says flatly, "I have come to inform you of the arrival of our king, Sir Uther Pendragon, into your realm. For that your knights insulted myself and my companions and threatened us with dismemberment. I have shown them what a knight of Salisbury thinks of such poor hospitality."

Hard eyed he goes on, "And then Your Grace rebuffed my oath in the name of the Just Servants of Our Lord and Savior. I have been patient but now I must be cruel. If you do not surrender now and allow me to return you to Lincoln then I will cut you down where you stand. Your squire may attend to you as required as I have no reason to detest him, but he will share your fate should you rebuke me again."

Persidius knows not what else to say. He is livid and stayed barely by his better nature. He had promised his cousin to keep Bleddyn from trouble and what has he done but lead the man into mortal battle where he has been seriously injured?

The boy's cheeks are flush with silent anger. Persidius sees a fearsome warrior in him a good few years hence. Sir Corneus' eyes narrow, but he exhales heavily and they soften. Still, his expression is laced with fear and thinly veiled distrust. "Pardon my haste, Sir Knight. I took your for a lackey of the Centurion king, here to take my head back to Malahaut. I've never heard of the evangels and so I couldn't very well be expected to accept an oath on their account, especially from one I thought an assassin. I gave no instruction for my knights to rebuke our sovereign or his true servants of the west country, and if they have done so for that reason, they have acted in disobedience of my will. I will go gladly to meet King Uther if you escort me as a free man of dignity. I had thought to host him three weeks heretofore but when he did not arrive and I heard no word of his presence nearby, I thought him caught up in some southron business and his journey cancelled."

He slowly climbs to his feet, with his son's help. "You were charged to bring news of the Pendragon's arrival and you have fulfilled your charge. My bodyguards caused you injury and you took satisfaction. I expect you will ransom those still left alive; I shall not challenge the ancient law of arms in that respect. The kin of those you have killed will demand blood payment as well. We shall return to Lincoln as friends, and exchange silver and hostages as fit the laws and customs. This shall be the end of our emnity, agreed?" He extends his right arm, a small tremor barely noticeable in his fingers.

Bleddyn, mindful of his wounds, slowly tries to catch up with Persidius.

It happened again. The remaining Knight of Lincoln gave Bleddyn a parting blow of 18 damage for a wound of 8, leaving Bleddyn at 1 HP, and Bleddyn fell from his horse and took full fall damage of 6, leaving him, again at -5. 99% chance of character death. Will you take your chances with the healers and leave your final FP to your heir if you die, or will you spend your FP to save Bleddyn?
It would reduce the damage to 9, which would be absorbed by the armor, and not cause Bleddyn to fall off his horse, thus saving him from the 6 points of fall damage.

Since you've evaded, I'll allow you to retrieve your sword and strike back with it without the penalty.

The knight swings to give Bleddyn a parting blow, and were his aim but a hair's breadth higher, Bleddyn may have have lost his life for turning his back, but instead it bounces off his chainmail, and Emrys knocks the Knight from his horse with a thunderous strike.
