Man! I thought this was going to be gimmicks like what William Castle used to do with his movies. I was all, Damn that would be fun, then I read it. I'm so sad now.

Bull. Shit.

This whole "quick fix" (can it still be considered a "quick" fix if it's two pages?) is greatly exaggerating and speculating about stuff, which doesn't even have anything to do with the actual movies. This is nothing but outrage porn.

For starters, 4DX is already a thing. We have that in Mexico, and some people seem to dig it: the very same suckers who pay double for the same movie ran through a "3D conversion" filter. If you ever went to Disneyland's "Honey, I shrunk the audience" there will be nothing new for you to experience.

Then the "seizure factory" it's already showing up everywhere, not just in movie theaters. Ever since flat screens and LED monitors became cheap, every place in the world is becoming Times Square. Hell, you can't even pass through a church without seeing it. It's the same fucking thing, except in a lobby. And for those unfamiliar with movie theaters, movies are not projected in the lobbies, there are separate rooms called "theaters" with dedicated projection screens for that sort of thing.

As for the other interactive bullshit? yeah, that might turn out to be annoying, but there's zero percent chance that if those kinds of shenanigans are ever embraced by movie theaters they would actually be used during the movie itself. If you read carefully, all of those features are either during the ads (not even the previews) or for screenings of old movies they likely have watched many times already, to keep themselves entertained. In the first case, the best thing to do is showing up 10 minutes late to skip the ads. The second scenario could actually be fun, but again, the practice would need to be restricted to older movies, as the people who go to the theaters on opening weekend would rather watch the movie they paid for instead of fucking around with their ipads or typing/reading a bunch of stupid tweets by morons with nothing better to do.

Movies have already been hell.

I mean, my god, if I go on a Friday night the theatre is FULL of these...children things and other loud people.

And people.

Ya know what would get me back into the movie theater? Issue each person headphones so we don't have to listen to all the other patrons' bullshit.

I think a social element to movies would not be unwarranted. It would have to be managed carefully, with a great deal of careful UI design and chatter-dampers. But if I went to a movie and I had the option of viewing it socially, with second screens and twitter hashtags and inline messaging, I wouldn't say no. It might work.

When I started to read that the audience could control the commercials, I got excited... until I realized that that didn't mean they could be skipped or sped up. But yeah, a lot of this article seemed exaggerated for the hell of it.

Also, MST3K reference.

(Presumably, the only way to stop a bad guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law is a good guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law, and thus transgender-friendly privacy law rights need to be enshrined in the Constitution as well)
