7 Horrific Realities of Receiving a Donor Organ

Postby DamianaRaven » Tue Nov 04, 2014 8:20 pm

This sucks. We really need to change the way we handle the whole "donor organ" situation. My best (and most controversial) idea is to presume everyone IS a donor and make it an opt-out situation, rather than vice versa.

If we took all the money we are wasting on medical research and just let those people die, we can use all the money to research transferring our consciousnesses to machines. Start taxing religious institutions too, and we will have it done in two decades.

Once we are essentially all immortal, we can spend a millenia or seven figuring out cloning and getting all those people that died back. A small harm for a very great gain.

I don't want to be God of Space and Time guys. I just want to be God of Deciding Who Gets Funded.

Jokes On You Buddy. All over you. You should change.

I am with Jack. I want to be a ghost in the shell.

I also believe you've made a previous post about mandating organ donation, if I remember correctly Damiana. I am only 30% certain about this though.

Fact is, organ donation is a tricky thing. Even if someone is completely healthy, they could have CMV-which won't hurt you unless your'e immunosuppressed.

Plus, I can explain his pube question if anyone cares.

You also shouldn't eat raw or uncooked lunch meat or hotdogs if you're on immunosuppresent medications cuz listeria.

*Googles "cheese grater fetish"* Noooooooooo! You do not. Really, you don't. I don't either. In fact, everyone stay out of "the shell" until it's been washed. Is there somebody we can call for this kind of cleaning? *shudders*

Great. Now I'm going to have nightmares about cheese graters again.

And now I just threw up.

Figures that you'd remember my cheese grater phobia.

For the record, that's one of the most sensible phobias one can have... in the same category as monsters and freaked-out skunks. It's people who aren't afraid that have mental problems!

In the end, fear is for the grater good.

We have a stupid system here that even if you are a registered organ donor, they still can't take them out of your corpse without your next of kin's permission. So it's not even up to the person dying's belief, it's to the people surviving. It's pretty straightforward for me. I'm not going to be using my organs so someone else may as well have them. Not that they'd be in the best condition, being riddled with bullets and fire and alcohol and grease and whatnot but it's the thought that counts.

I live in Wales where everyone is an automatic organ donor unless you opt out. They decided to get rid of the opt in scheme for something more sensible.

Are you serious? If so, that's pretty damn cool! Has it worked out well thus far?

Ah I'm only like a bit wrong. It's not come in yet

http://organdonationwales.org/?lang=en

Everyone I'd spoken to today had just assumed it had already come in because that's exactly how many fuck Welsh people care about the new rules haha.

It's coming into force on December 1st 2015.
