Actually, Krash, that dishonor goes to Yuzu and Mei in Citrus, and Chise and Elias aren't a couple (yet).

I've heard stories about that anime. Nice art, terrible and crooked relationships.

I'll see your Yuzu and Mei form Citrus, and raise you an Eiko and Kiyose from Slow Start.

...apparently this is an improvement on some previous school system americans had. What's wrong with your teachers.

teaching them to split problems into smaller problems is well and good but why the fuck are you being tested on the smaller problems? different people do it in different ways, and I'd never think of it as "making 10". We learnt place values as kids, so I'd call it passing it to the 10s place. Also teaching things orthogonal to the problem to be solved can't be a good idea, can it? it sounds super distracting and very "this is the right way to do it". imagine a kid who memorizes teens to add things in this system. He'd be taught that his way of doing it is unorthodox and wrong. There's barely any difference between memorizing sums that add to numbers below 10 and sums that add to numbers below 20 but he'd still get less points on this problem for no fucking reason.

WE ARE ALL FLOATING IN THE WINDS OF TIME. BUT YOUR CANDLE WILL FLICKER FOR SOME TIME BEFORE IT GOES OUT -- A LITTLE REWARD FOR A LIFE WELL LIVED. FOR I CAN SEE THE BALANCE AND YOU HAVE LEFT THE WORLD MUCH BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT, AND IF YOU ASK ME, said Death, NOBODY COULD DO ANY BETTER THAN THAT...

You can read all about it in the text book Make Ten, Not War. I can't speak to the maths because that always makes my head hurt but 'adding 8 plus five' is a tautology so the teacher gets an F. At the very least use an ampersand while you're teaching maths wrong. And they're to write the answer, not tell it.

Then again, I was the kid who answered the question "Can you explain how photosynthesis works?" with "No" and that loophole didn't work for me.

Apparently it's an old way of mathematics that was disbanded in the 1960s so as to reduce a step in critical thinking.

It's just a bunch of unnecessary, pretentious bullshit in hindsight though. What the hell kind of person is too elitist to carry a fucking one?

Eh, I'm not great a math. When it comes to arithmatic thats how I usually do it. Don't know where "The right answer isn't important part" shows up though. If thats the case, that was part of what was actually screwed up about it.

I read "giving joi" as "giving joy" spelled in some charmingly vernacular way and thought that was a nice way of describing it, what nice wholesome porn this guy was watching. Of course I then figured it out, but that was a nice few seconds.
