What's your American wizarding house?

Postby reallifegirl » Tue Jun 28, 2016 9:03 pm

So for anyone who isn't following the news surrounding the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie, J.K. Rowling has released a sorting quiz for Ilvermorny, the American wizarding school. Ilvermorny has houses like Hogwarts, except instead of the same characteristics as the British houses, they divide students by body part for...reasons, I guess: the heart, the mind, the body, and the soul. Heart for healer-types, mind for scholar-types, body for warrior-types, and soul for adventurer-types.

You can find the quiz here. I think you may need to make a Pottermore account to take it.

I got "Horned Serpent". Which is apparently "mind". Which I'm OK with.

Also, I got Gryffindor for my Hogwarts house. Can I get a do-over on that? Because fuck Gryffindor. Seriously.

You say "New World Order" "communist echo chamber" like it's a bad thing.

I deleted my account and re-took the test. I got Slytherin this time. I always thought of myself as of more of a Hufflepuff, but you know what, I can live with that.

Also, I bet Horned Serpent is the house that never wins anything. I was always in the house that never wins anything in school. They even split my sister and me up once, so they could put me in the loser house.

It is still a point of confusion for me that I spent all of my life getting 'Ravenclaw' as my house, and Pottermore still steadfastly insists I'm a Hufflepuff.

On the other hand, Hufflepuffs have the sweetest common room layout, so there's that.

Look, y'all can keep your damp, dank cellar room of broodiness, we're right by the kitchens and we're the only one safe enough that Harry Potter never broke into it.

Also intruders are doused in vinegar, which is sweet.

I got Slytherin at Hogwarts, and "Pukwudgie" at the American school.

Pukwudgie represents the heart and favors healers.

But I got Slytherin.

Hmm.

I got Slytherin, which is odd, because I always thought of myself as more of a Ravenclaw person (also, a Facebook quiz gave me Ravenclaw years ago). For the other one, I got Horned Serpent.

(Presumably, the only way to stop a bad guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law is a good guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law, and thus transgender-friendly privacy law rights need to be enshrined in the Constitution as well)

I always assumed I'd get Ravenclaw. Seeing you all get Slytherin and considering my cynicism, egotism, and elitist tendencies, I decided to try the test with a fake email.

Unfortunately, they verify email addresses before you can do anything, and I'm still too lazy to create a throwaway GMail account for websites I have no interest in.

Why the hell is everyone here a Slytherin? Slytherins are the reason Brexit happened. Everyone knows they hate the Polish.

I got Gryffindor. I thought I was Ravenclaw.

I'm also a Thunderbird, which seems cooler than Gryffindor.

According to Albus Dumbledore, the qualities which Salazar valued in the students he chose included cleverness, resourcefulness, determination, and "a certain disregard for the rules."

I think we can agree that quite a lot of us are resourceful and disregard some rules. Like not eating Larry's pizza in the break room. Fuck you, Larry, you didn't put your name on it.

I mean, I'm some of us may have leanings of self preservation- which is why I'd trip almost anyone if we were running from a horde of zombies. Distraction. You don't have to outrun the zombies-just be the faster person.
