Diplomacy is the most backstabbiest game of all time. Seriously, it ruins relationships. It is not for the faint of heart.

Most games we've played didn't have as many people dying so quickly, but the consequence of that is that they tend to take longer. Splitting people up into varying factions can also increase meta-game. People here can handle complex games pretty well, but they have the tendency to rob you of sleep, especially if you work alone.

I've got a tumblr where I write about stuff, some of which is also on this site. I've also got a few videos you might wanna check out.

I'd be happy to help, if I can. I haven't gm'd a mafia game, but I did gm the void game and its sequel.

I don't know, I need to figure out the difference between the types of games and that will probably happen tomorrow. A game without the death toll of the Wolves mafia would be great . . . what does an IC game mean (in character?)

I LOVE the GIF, by the way . . . that's from Something Blue, isn't it? That was a great episode, it was the first where Buffy and Spike were together, even if it was just a spell.

IC means in character. Haunted House had an IC thread and an out of character thread. Gash could tell you more about it, it was his baby. I'm not entirely sure which episode the gif is from. Pretty sure it's where Buffy tells Giles that she's sleeping with Spike.

Exactly. Heritage Mafia has about that many people killing every night, and it behooves very quick and strong teamwork between the normals to win. Granted I could have given the villagers a scanning mechanism of some sort and that would have helped, but the choice to structure the game as it was was intentional. Like Mal says, faction Mafia games tend to go nuts with metagaming. Though, without saying too much, there was a little bit of that anyway in this game.

Seeing as there is no setting or theme or whatever written down next to mine and Nudge's game it's post apocalyptic of some sort.

My understanding of Diplomacy is that the game rules are much more conducive to scheming and negotiation (never played a game). But we could certainly play with Risk rules too, which are fairly simple.

I think the write-ups would be really fun to read in either case.

Diplomacy basically can't be won without the help of other players. Everything is dependent on group votes, which means your ability to negotiate, manipulate, and remorselessly backstab former allies is paramount.

Which, of course, involved very actual real stabbings in the back.

Notch is in Murrica, Strant. People don't stab each other in schools, not when they can just bring guns and shoot people. The stabbings they leave for prisons.

So my first game ended well. It is the first of a three part trilogy. I would love to run the next segment of course, but will wait my turn.

IS there an official regimented waiting list?

I don't there's an official list, more like a sense that one should wait one's turn. The follow-up to Escape may happen quite soon, if no one else is chomping at the bit.

It's always in the last place you look for it, unless you're the kind of person who keeps looking for it after you've found it.
