This or that?

Postby blehblah » Fri Sep 20, 2013 7:11 pm

I have an idea, but it's not entirely realized. Maybe this is an alpha topic, it could be as far as beta, but not production-quality. I'll try to sketch some rules, but they'll need refinement.

The basic premise is simple; binary comparisons. A or B. One or Two (or One and Zero, if you prefer).

So far as rules go, I think that one rule comes first; don't be simple. Simple is:

- Blind : Deaf
- Legs : Arms
- Christian : Jewish

If it's a debate elsewhere on this forum, go to there and debate.

The second rule is that that This and That must be close in acceptance:

- Puns : Penis Jokes
- Skittles : M&M's

The second rule is in violation of the third, according to the forth, which has yet to be presented. The third rule is that it must encourage meaningless debate that is unlikely to be resolved, but must be attempted to be resolved without meaningful resolution before the next is presented, though overlapping operation of all of the rules is accepted, except the first and sixth - which apply only when some douche goes and quotes the seventh.

Blah, blah. No arseholing is what it comes down to.

Okay, that was very exhaustive.

This or that:

What they think about you : What you think about you

Why start easy?

I'm perplexed enough to post a meaningless wall of text unrelated to anything here. But I won't.

I'm not sure how to phrase it differently...

Okay, consider the first one (which may well be a shit first one):

What they think about you : What you think about you

Debate is not the objective, though that's okay (and, unavoidable)... it's about any two things that are close, but not, and perhaps totally opposite yet associated. For instance, don't we all worry that how we see ourselves does not equal how other see us?

Meh, I've probably not thought it out well enough. Yings orbit yangs, electrons fuzz about protons... the sometimes beautiful, sometimes yucky, opposition of things.

Unless someone throws me a frickin bone : dog, here!

I'm going with what THEY think about you.

Too many people are convinced and self-assured that their greatness will one day be recognized and appreciated, and maybe it will be, but it's a long road from you thinking you're awesome to people agreeing with you. Actually, another good reason to go with "what THEY think about you" is that, if you have a terrible opinion of yourself due to low self-esteem or depression, friends who see the good in you can pull you out of your funk.

Okay, that's my two cents. Now am I supposed to suggest a new debate or do I let someone else counter with "what YOU think about you"?

Spock, because Kirk is nothing without him. I don't understand why Kirk aficionados insist on romanticizing him as a lone wolf figure, because A) he was pretty screwed without his crew, as evidenced by Generations that one show they insist never happened, and B) actual lone wolves tend to be sick and violent and therefore cast out of the pack, and don't often meet with great success. At least Spock, who was way smarter and better than most of the crew, knew how to be a team player.

Spock: Kirk...Spork! I mean, that's such an easy one.

Picard all the way baby. And Notch, gotta go with guitar solos. I mean, for drummers drum solos are the thing but I think most lay people don't quite get them...unless it's Neal Pert.

And now the age old Universal Monsters battle...
