Pai's pulling more shit. Want to file a complaint with the FCC against an ISP and actually have it reviewed? That'll be $225, please. Naturally, only one comissioner dissented.

Once again, the poorer citizens have their voices made just a little quieter, by adding hoops and financial hurdles. Reminds me of poll taxes.

Regulatory agencies no longer protect the public. I suspect Pai is in a win-win situation - either he keeps his cushy position, or he erodes all faith in his agency until his Republican masters can justify tearing it down.

This is what anti-regulatory fervor does, people. It's a Libertarian oligarch's wet dream. $225 dollars, please.

It died on the paper.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/07/1 ... aint_plan/

America's comms watchdog – the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) – stooped to a new low on Thursday when it made last-second changes to a new complaints procedure just minutes after it denied the changes were necessary.

The regulator's July monthly meeting was overshadowed by reports and complaints that an effort to "streamline" its complaints procedure effectively undermined it, and would force consumers to pay $225 to have their concerns addressed by the FCC.

The watchdog pushed back against those reports – which had prompted a Congressional letter and even comment from late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel – by claiming that the new plan used the same language as the current formal complaints process. It even succeeded in persuading some journalists that that was the case.

They will find a better time, and use better words.

I certainly hope it died. Said article indicates the latest wording isn't available to the public yet.

Given the amount of pressure from all sides and now internally, I'm fairly optimistic about the vote either not passing or getting swiftly overturned, but please continue to call your reps and do everything else in your power.

Remember how the FCC claimed to have been hacked and that's why comments were disabled?

They now say they were not hacked.

And naturally. According to Ajit Pai. It is Obama's fault.

After a period of uncertainty, California has become the fourth state (joining Washington, Oregon, and Vermont) to successfully sign a protective net neutrality bill into law. And as expected of California, it's the most far-reaching and comprehensive one yet, prompting immediate outcry from those who profit off the slow dismantling of the free internet: in addition to numerous promised lawsuits from ISPs, the Justice Department will be taking the state to court in an effort to stop the bill from going into effect.

but i thought they were the party of states' rights tho

How are you talking to us from 1861, Windy? Did you build a steampunk telegraph that can send messages through time?

According to conspiracy theorists, sometime between the 1960s (the time period when democrats were trying to block civil rights) and 2018 we all entered opposite land where suddenly the democrats became the good guys and republicans became saturday morning cartoon villains. Conspiracy theorists also tend to believe that anyone who doesn't believe in this theory are simply too stupid to appreciate how they enlightened they are by their own intelligence.

"literally"... such a fun word.

I'm a bit surprised Massachusetts hasn't joined in yet. They seem to always be the one to start shit iirc. I do feel like giving props to Vermont though. Oregon, Washington, California, I would expect so good on ya Vermont. Fight the good fight. Ya know, that literal civil war we got going because of internet stuff. I pledge allegiance.

Those wacky conspiracy theorists. They tried to convince us that sometime between 2008 and 2016 some of the people who used to support Obama started supporting Trump, but that's obviously ridiculous. People don't change party preferences or affiliations--certainly not after losing a bitter intraparty battle over a policy that's incredibly important to them.

Wow, it's as if politics and society can't be simplified into saturday morning cartoon shows and Harry Potter!

Maybe not, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't keep trying. I believe in you, Windy. If you want to put us all in that "diehard Rachel Maddow fan" box, I'm confident you'll find a way to make us fit.

Can't you Americans come out with a good looking pundit? You know. Someone that the whole nation watches that tells the news and isn't ugly? What ever happened to Tom Brokaw? He was good looking.
