President Donald Trump on Monday trash-talked a Virginia restaurant that asked his press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, to leave because she worked for his administration.

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/sta ... 6487728133

The Red Hen Restaurant should focus more on cleaning its filthy canopies, doors and windows (badly needs a paint job) rather than refusing to serve a fine person like Sarah Huckabee Sanders. I always had a rule, if a restaurant is dirty on the outside, it is dirty on the inside!

https://globalnews.ca/news/4293875/sara ... estaurant/

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders’s tweet about a Virginia restaurant which refused to serve her is in violation of U.S. ethics laws, according to a the former director of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics.

Walter Schaub says Sanders’s use of an “official government account to condemn a private business” violates rules on preferential treatment and endorsements.

This is all evidence of far-left stuff like socialism and hate, which is normalized by the MSM, and evidence of hypocrisy, because reasons which a Fox opinion writer explained, here:

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2018/06/ ... overs.html

Virginia is for lovers of political correctness, as we learned this weekend when White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was thrown out of The Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia, on Friday night. The restaurant’s owner sanctimoniously declared the establishment has to uphold “certain standards.”

Evidently she means the standard of resisting President Trump, by refusing to serve steak or french fries, or a hen that’s red - or whatever it is that they serve - to an employee of the man they loathe because they’re “tolerant,” or something like that.

This political correctness is quickly approaching dangerous and irrational levels the likes of which we’ve never witnessed before. In the age of social media anyone can seize an opportunity to publicly take a stand against President Trump, and know that it could easily become national news and give them their 15 minutes of fame in the process.

Or, I dunno, President Trump could, on social media, take a stand against a restaurant that refused to serve his press secretary because of the politics she holds. But, yeah, this "politically correct" stuff is so very approaching the danger-zone, etc. Obligatory reference to the cake thingy, citing "many people" is included:

Both The Red Hen’s owner and many others are pointing to the recent Supreme Court decision that ruled Masterpiece Cakeshop did not have to make an off-the-menu cake for a gay wedding to justify kicking Sanders out of the restaurant. However, there is no comparison. For that logic to work Sanders would’ve had to order food that wasn’t on the menu and then use the government to try and force them to make what she wanted.

Aaand, queue the inevitable (which started before Trump's tweet):

SWEDESBORO, N.J. - People have been flooding a Red Hen restaurant with angry calls and negative reviews since White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was told to leave -- but they've got the wrong Red Hen.

They're well within their rights.

Huckabee Sanders' entire job involves dispensing a stream of bullshit on behalf of the White House. That's a health code violation if ever I saw one.

On one hand, I do think it's silly and petty to refuse service to SHS. On the other hand...

Did Hannity ghostwrite this, or does nobody at Fox News know what political correctness actually is? It's hard to take their journalism seriously when their editorialists don't know what words mean.

So Trump is saying that his press secretary goes to filthy restaurants (and gets thrown out even from there.) Nice defense.

By the way, the last health two inspections (in 2017 and 2018) have found no violations at the Red Hen. The kitchen in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort on the other hand was hit with 13 health violations in April 2017 and 15 in November 2017.

Yeah. I actually agree with what the conservative writer Rod Dreher said about this:

Are we really going to be the kind of country in which businesses drive those whose politics offend them out of their premises? Are we really going to be the kind of country in which activists enter restaurants and drive particular customers out, because of their politics?

Who does this help? I’ll tell you who: Donald J. Trump. Conservative people see this, and they imagine themselves being thrown out of a restaurant, either by the owner or by left-wing protesters, because they are conservative.

I believe that is true. At some point, some conservatives got so tired of everyone else playing the victim card that they decided to feel victimized by everything and everyone who doesn't agree with them, while simultaneously ignoring anyone who has actually been, or claims to have been, victimized. All lives matter, fake MSM news, there were good people on both sides in Charleston (besides, slavery was, like, a long time ago, and states rights), the world has treated the USA as its piggybank, ABC owes Trump an apology, NATO countries are robbing us, they are sending us their worst rapists, etc. Trump is really riding that sentiment hard, and it continues to work, while he continues to have won the election, and Fox news continues to be the top-rated cable news outlet.

Just watch the man go to work, and listen to the crowd eat it up.

Awww... it cuts right at Crooked Hillary. Damn, I love hearing those stories! USA! USA!

Facing higher costs from tariffs, Harley-Davidson said it is shifting production of motorcycles sold to European customers from the United States to another site offshore.

Trump Tweet wrote:Surprised that Harley-Davidson, of all companies, would be the first to wave the White Flag. I fought hard for them and ultimately they will not pay tariffs selling into the E.U., which has hurt us badly on trade, down $151 Billion. Taxes just a Harley excuse - be patient! #MAGA

Taxes? What? C'mon, Trump, get-on with calling Harleys oil-leaking, loud, pieces of shit ridden by criminals - that'll learn 'em!

Presumably the next level of equality is for liberals to bar conservatives from getting married and pass a constitutional amendment making the votes of women and racial minorities count for more than those of white men. Then conservatives can make a habit of employing mob violence against liberal political figures, and ritually sacrifice infants to Jesus while trying to make liberals pay for it with their tax dollars. Liberals would then start shrugging indifferently as police brutalize or gun down conservatives (innocent or not), and might even start deliberately separating some conservative families as a punitive measure, ushering in a bold new era of 100% equal treatment for everyone. Also, probably a civil war.

I really like the part where we bullied Colberto and Noodlefox out of TCS so now we can imply everyone who voted for Trump is responsible for child trafficking and need to be harassed everywhere they go and it wouldn't be directed at anyone here. It's OK though because it's just comedy they should just learn to be mature and take a joke.

If you have a specific example of someone calling for harassing all Trump supporters please point it out (I haven't been reading this thread).

Pointing out the stupid, racist things Trump does and says does not equal harassment of people for voting for him.

Asking why someone would vote for him is not harassment.

Trying to get someone to justify his abhorrent policies is not harassment.

Not a specific example of Trump making himself an even BIGGER asshole, but an interesting quick read.

https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/ ... er/563675/

In recent years, elected officials have flocked to social-media platforms to run their campaigns, stake their place on issues, and have a direct dialogue with their constituents and voters. To some, this signifies a more open and communicative approach to government. But James Madison, the Founding Father and America’s fourth president, would be appalled at how these platforms have eroded democracy, claims Jeffrey Rosen, the president and CEO of the National Constitution Center.

Madison wrote in the Federalist Papers that “passion never fails to wrest the sceptre from reason.” Rosen argues that platforms like Twitter and Facebook play directly into people’s passions, precluding the ability to think or debate reasonably about issues.

[...]

Ultimately Rosen said that until the public is willing to educate itself on civics and democracy, the problem will continue to get worse. “It’s up to people to educate themselves,” he said. “Use this remarkable tool of the internet. Read the Federalist Papers, read about Athenian politics. The internet could be a Madisonian dream if we had the discipline to use it properly. Or we can watch cat videos.”

One of the points that struck me is how folks expect an instant reaction. For most politicians, laying-down that reaction via Twitter hardens them into continuing to support that reaction, come what may. Trump somehow defies gravity on this, as his past tweets (or any other utterance) seemingly have no bearing on his later positions, and it doesn't matter.

Everyone falls in-line, one way or the other. Digging Tweet trenches, as it were.

What I hope for from a leader is quick thinking, tempered by a willingness to ruminate on decisions as situations evolve and facts are verified. I also like principled leaders who are willing to risk the label of "flip-flopper".

Trump is happy to react based on whatever input he receives in the moment; he doesn't ever quite get around to describing his core principles, how they are driving his policy, and the tactics which he'll use to satisfy those policies, leading back to his core principles. He just does #MAGA stuff.

Trump is very communicative, via Twitter and rallies, but is loathe to put himself in situations where he has to defend his policy actions in a way that is open to direct questioning. His relationship with the media is strictly one-way; he declares indecipherable nonsense via Twitter, photo-ops, and campaign rallies, while the media scrambles to understand what it means.

Those who are charged with holding democratically elected governments to account have an increasingly rare opportunity to question Trump directly. Simultaneously, those members of the media who don't divine genius from his Twitter tea leaves are "fake". Trump was quite clear, he abuses media who don't give him positive coverage.

To my memory, his one and only press conference was a gong show, and Trump knows to not repeat the fiasco that was having media people ask him direct questions.

And, gee-gosh, Trump's rate of falsehoods is increasing as his indirect exposure, via press briefings, are getting shorter:

http://www.newsweek.com/sarah-sanders-d ... ths-954202

Sanders’s appearances before the media in the White House briefing room declined in length for the fourth consecutive month in May. At the same time, Trump is now averaging 6.5 false or misleading claims a day as he approaches his 500th day in office, up from 4.9 claims a day during his first 100 days as president.

On average, Sanders’s press briefings lasted just short of 18 minutes last month, representing a steep decline from the 30-minute average in January. If the current trend were to continue, The Post notes, the briefings would cease to exist by November.

Such a scenario may not be all that far-fetched, given that it was floated by the president last May as his then press secretary Sean Spicer struggled to respond to Trump’s conflicting narratives over the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

"We don’t have press conferences," Trump told Fox News. "We just don’t have them. Unless I have them every two weeks and do it myself. We don’t have them. I think it's a good idea.”

Trump tweets should be subjected to scrutiny, because the world + dog was told so.

Trump. Twitter. Facebook.

He may very-well will win in 2020.
