Yeah, that's what I've been saying. The cover-up is worse than the crime. Even if they didn't violate campaign finance law, it's simply a waste of money.

Extra Extra,, read all about it:
With the proposal of the Republicans whos idea of a welfare plan is (get this) halving Snap and distributing food boxes to welfare recipients, its become official:
The Republican Party has gone senile.
Their apparent embrace of centralized planning is an indicator that they've suffered a serious decline in cognitive functioning, and its recommended that they should perhaps avoid any mentally or physically taxing activity.

I knew that it was only a matter of time for Trump to link the recent school shooting to the Russia investigation. He tweeted this:

Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign - there is no collusion. Get back to the basics and make us all proud!

The FBI may have made a mistake here (as it was discussed in another thread). But I'm pretty sure that is a fairly large organization and that if someone from the FBI didn't respond to this threat properly, it was not because that person was distracted with the Russia investigation.

(This talking point was first spread by alt-right propagandists on the Internet, it may have gotten to Trump through them.)

It is Sunday, and Trump is in Mar-a-Lago. Twitter time!

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/sta ... 8449941505

If it was the GOAL of Russia to create discord, disruption and chaos within the U.S. then, with all of the Committee Hearings, Investigations and Party hatred, they have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. They are laughing their asses off in Moscow. Get smart America!

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/sta ... 8191168512

Now that Adam Schiff is starting to blame President Obama for Russian meddling in the election, he is probably doing so as yet another excuse that the Democrats, lead by their fearless leader, Crooked Hillary Clinton, lost the 2016 election. But wasn’t I a great candidate?

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/sta ... 6204003328

I never said Russia did not meddle in the election, I said “it may be Russia, or China or another country or group, or it may be a 400 pound genius sitting in bed and playing with his computer.” The Russian “hoax” was that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia - it never did!

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/sta ... 0471810049

Finally, Liddle’ Adam Schiff, the leakin’ monster of no control, is now blaming the Obama Administration for Russian meddling in the 2016 Election. He is finally right about something. Obama was President, knew of the threat, and did nothing. Thank you Adam!

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/sta ... 3142719489

Never gotten over the fact that Obama was able to send $1.7 Billion Dollars in CASH to Iran and nobody in Congress, the FBI or Justice called for an investigation!

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/sta ... 6829871104

General McMaster forgot to say that the results of the 2016 election were not impacted or changed by the Russians and that the only Collusion was between Russia and Crooked H, the DNC and the Dems. Remember the Dirty Dossier, Uranium, Speeches, Emails and the Podesta Company!

Okay, I'm cheating - that last one is from Saturday.

He also found time on Sunday to retweet a political cartoon about CNN, because of course he did.

(paywalled) https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the ... ca197b1a89

Branco is a conservative cartoonist who told me during the 2016 campaign that “political cartoons are supposed to rile people up.” His website is ComicallyIncorrect.com, a jab at political correctness.

In August 2016, Trump campaign surrogate Mark Burns, a pastor, apologized after tweeting a Branco cartoon that depicted Clinton in blackface and saying, “I ain't no ways tired of pandering to African Americans.”

The episode prompted the Trump campaign to enforce stricter rules for surrogates, in an effort to avoid similar embarrassments.

Trump ain't no surrogate!

When Trump goes-off like this - and this is just the Sunday follow-on to his Saturday activity - it's hard to keep-up. His primary theme seems to be, "Okay, fine, Russians did stuff during the election, but I still won, because I was the greatest candidate!"

To which I kinda figure; yes, Donald, you did win, and nobody is trying to roll that back, for the millionth time. Now that you have, in your own strange way, accepted this, do you have a plan for the future (you know, that abstract thingy that hasn't happened yet)? Mid-terms, 2020? Anything? Bueller? Donald... Donald... DONALD! Put the remote down, and maybe start by having someone read this article to you:

https://www.politico.com/magazine/story ... ons-217000.

One of the rules of policy making is to remember what you set out to achieve. Section 241 was intended to put pressure on the Kremlin power structure via the threat of future sanctions. The idea was to convey a message, in language Russian elites understand, that there are consequences, including for them personally, that result from being too close to Putin and thereby enabling his state-driven aggression.

[...]

Beyond being the right thing to do, this action would give the Trump administration an opportunity to go further than the Obama administration, whose response to the election hacking was admittedly insufficient (full disclosure: we worked on them); take credit for doing so; and provide a real deterrent to Putin.

Donald... Donald... DONALD! Did you catch that last part? You can do something to correct, to actually fix, something which Obama, arguably, kinda, got wrong, in retrospect. Think it over. Imagine the accolades. Imagine how they'll say, "Wow, Donald is giving it to them Ruskies right where it hurts, he can't possibly be, for whatever reason, strangely fixated on denying the Russians tried, very, very hard, to affect the election, because look, he's kicking them right in the rubles!"

I'll go ahead and start holding my breath now.

EDIT: Wrote 'breathe' we I meant 'breath'.

Remember when, during the election, Mitt Romney came out against Trump, called him a phony and a fraud, said that his campaign promises are worthless and that he's temperamentally unfit for President?

Remember when in response to that, Trump called Romney (among other things) "one of the dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics"?

They sure don't seem to. Because Romney recently announced that he's running for the Senate in Utah to replace Orrin Hatch and Trump gave him a full-throated endorsement: "He will make a great Senator and worthy successor to @OrrinHatch, and has my full support and endorsement!"

And Romney responded: "Thank you Mr. President for the support. I hope that over the course of the campaign I also earn the support and endorsement of the people of Utah."

Funny, because back in 2016, he said: "If Trump had said 4 years ago the things he says today about the KKK, Muslims, Mexicans, disabled, I would NOT have accepted his endorsement" And that was in March, before the "grab them by the pussy" tape, before his response to Charlottesville, and so on.

Romney has a reputation of being a flip-flopper I wonder why that could be. Trump of course is just as much of a flip-flopper as Romney. The "choke artist", the idiot, the dope will make a great senator!

Some remarks you shouldn't be able to walk back on. Such as Rick Perry calling Trump a cancer on conservatism. Or Ted Cruz calling him utterly amoral, a bully, a narcissist and a pathological liar. There should be no excuse here. Either they didn't mean it, in which case they are willing to say anything about anyone just for the sake of power, and they shouldn't be in office. Or they meant it, but were wrong, in which case their political judgement is so catastrophically poor that they shouldn't be in office. And yet.

Ayuh, it's a strange situation of pragmatic selective memory by necessity. Vox hit a few of the points Aquila89 nailed:

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics ... ndorsement

“Mitt Romney understands something about President Trump: Trump is 100 percent transactional and not relational ... As a business person he understands the nature of being transactional,” Boyd Matheson, who was formerly Sen. Mike Lee’s (R-UT) chief of staff, told Golshan. People shouldn’t expect a “Romney–Trump cage match,” he added.

What a very polite way of saying 'it', Boyd.

Massachusetts, Utah - basically the same, right?

Here is the Wikipedia page covering the 2018 Utah Senate race:

The field is thick with Republicans

The thing I don't get about Romney is...why?

He has stated he doesn't really intend to be a foil for Trump, he doesn't seem interested in saving the GOP from the racism and conspiracy that's taking it over--which seems to be emanating from one very powerful Republican who's living in a house that...hm, I forget what Republican that was. So why him specifically? He's got as much money as he does grandchildren (tens of millions) and hasn't seem too interested in politics since being defeated in 2012, apart from an appearance here and there. So I'm not sure why this guy, who's 71 now (by the way, HOLY SHIT ROMNEY'S 71?! HOW DO I LOOK THAT GOOD WHEN I'M 71?! SHARE YOUR SECRETS, MITT!!!) and doesn't seem interested in money or power anymore, is suddenly jumping back into the fray.

It'd be one thing if he was interested in righting the ship of the GOP, but I'm not certain that's why he's there.

Trump tweeted this:

"My daughter, Ivanka, just arrived in South Korea. We cannot have a better, or smarter, person representing our country."

I don't think there should be a comma after "smarter". But other than that, he's right. There are many better and smarter people than Ivanka Trump. But until Donald Trump is in office, the US indeed cannot have them representing it, because he's hell-bent on putting her into positions for which she's not qualified.

I've been listening to The Byrds and I realized this song (like many Byrds songs written by Dylan) seems to perfectly describe Trump.

Really? If I were to better describe Trump's seemingly perpetual state of mind, it'd be:

Partially posted just because it's a dope song, but also because Trump's legit got dementia.

Me, I just think of Lily Allen's Fuck You.

By the way, the Winter Olympics have ended, and the United States had a rather poor showing; 9 gold medals, 28 medals overall, the worst since 1998. It would never occur to me to blame Trump for this - except that he tweeted this back in 2014:

Russia beat the United States in the Olympics-another Obama embarrassment! Isn't it time that we turn things around and start kicking ass?

As it was mentioned this forum, there was an armed deputy at the Stoneman Douglas High School who failed to confront the shooter. At a meeting of governors in the White House, Trump criticized him and said: ""You don't know until you test it, but I really believe I'd run in there even if I didn't have a weapon. And I think most of the people in this room would have done that, too."

I really believe that he really believes that. Although back in 2004, on the Howard Stern show, he did say that he's so afraid of the sight of blood that "if you cut your finger and there’s blood pouring out, I’m gone.” He shared a story about the time an old man collapsed at a charity event at Mar-a-Lago, face first on the marble floor:

So what happens is, this guy falls off right on his face, hits his head, and I thought he died. And you know what I did? I said, ‘Oh my God, that’s disgusting,’ and I turned away," I couldn’t, you know, he was right in front of me and I turned away. I didn’t want to touch him… he’s bleeding all over the place, I felt terrible. You know, beautiful marble floor, didn’t look like it. It changed color. Became very red. And you have this poor guy, 80 years old, laying on the floor unconscious, and all the rich people are turning away. ‘Oh my God! This is terrible! This is disgusting!’ and you know, they’re turning away. Nobody wants to help the guy. His wife is screaming—she’s sitting right next to him, and she’s screaming.”

That's Trump for you; when he thinks a man is dying before him, he worries about his marble floor.

Anyway, some Marines where also present, they rushed there and took the man away.

“I was saying, ‘Get that blood cleaned up! It’s disgusting!’ The next day, I forgot to call [the man] to say he’s OK,” said Trump, adding of the blood, “It’s just not my thing.”
