I remembered this thread and just reread it for old time's sake. I wasn't intending to necro it but I just saw this and gotta say (even though I don't think you, Rev, are a regular any more, but to folks in general) y'all should read Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series where that is totally a thing and totally epic.
