CINCOOO DE MAYYOOOO!

Postby Trojanman21 » Sun May 05, 2013 8:26 pm

Did you scream that with an exaggerated, some would say offensive, accent? Good! That's why Cinco de Mayo got its name in the early 1950's (the words themselves mean nothing in any language). So what are you guys doing today to celebrate the annexation of Alaska by the US government (the original reason behind the day)? For our other-than-American members, do your respective countries, city-states, or religious oligarchies celebrate this great day?

I didn't even know people in other countries celebrated any holidays at all. I thought it was just an Irish thing. ....don't feel quite as special now :(

If it gives us an excuse to drink, we celebrate it.

I watched sci-fi movies, then went out for dinner (a lovely pizza with tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, green peas and corn). I came home, watched the end of the second sci-fi movie, then tried to go to sleep while my upstairs neighbors had a fight and then a quickie. To get in the spirit of the day, I did cheer, "Arriba! Arriba! Andele! Andele!" a few times. I managed to sleep a good while before next door's morning fight woke me up. The local language here involves a lot of broken dishes.

It's always in the last place you look for it, unless you're the kind of person who keeps looking for it after you've found it.

We stood under the blazing Mexican sun for 2 hours, but it was worth it!

There once was a guy called Coyote
Whose voice was a dose of peyote
His smooth mellow tones
Caused such flutters and moans
That the chat got all rapt and emote-y
