In exciting news for fans of justice, or anyone looking for evidence that the federal government isn't entirely dysfunctional, it appears that Mitch McConnell will allow a Senate vote on a criminal justice reform bill with strong bipartisan support before the end of the year. The bill will roll back decades-old "tough on crime" sentencing guidelines for nonviolent federal crimes and focus resources on rehabilitation efforts for offenders, and is supported by everyone from liberal advocacy groups to Chuck Grassley, the GOP chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The White House has been pushing for these reforms since the Obama administration, and Trump has been even more enthusiastic about them than Obama (insert joke about Trump's personal interest in the sentencing of federal convicts here).

See, guys? Isn't it nice to pass legislation that basically everyone agrees is a good idea? Maybe now we can look at infrastructure.
