In addition to writing some of the best scripts ever filmed, such as "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "All the President's Men", "Marathon Man", "Misery", the original "Stepford Wives" and many others, Goldman was an accomplished novelist. He wrote "The Princess Bride", which he also adapted to the screen.

Along with Elmore Leonard, Goldman is often cited as the most influential screenwriter in Hollywood. His memoir "Adventures on the Screen Trade" is often cited and referenced by his peers as insightful and inspirational.
