I think they should only be offended if Trump was Indonesian (or Malay, since orangutans are native there as well), but to my knowledge, he isn't.

I've been feeling like a Don Imus fan all day and it sucks.

But uh does Trump want an apology for jokes from Jimmy Kimmel? I don't think that would really be it. He sat through a Comedy Central Roast and he's got a sense of humor. I think he's referring to something else but he'll never say because the fuckers middle name is vague. Like I think it might actually be Vague, John is way too common but nobody would think to question it. He might have been angered by something someone said at some point but doesn't have specifics other than "fuuuuuuuck ABC" stored in his memory. But he won't say.

See! You can call the current President's daughter a cunt or a previous President's daughter Donkey from Shrek and nobody cares.

So Ivanka Trump posted a picture of her and her kids. OMG how thoughtless in light of the migrant children being separated from their parents, I suppose nobody should be doing that. That seems to be a cruel and ignorant thing to be doing.

*checks internet*

Yup no sign of anyone else doing that in the past few weeks.

Was this an idea Samantha Bee had to try and take a Roseanne arc just to balance out the stupidity? Why? I'm not calling for her to be fired but I'm not going to do anything but shrug if sponsors walk away from the show or if she does get fired.

I definitely think it was wrong of her to say that. At best, it's ineffective, at worst it's an offensive and crude insult.

That being said, it's a false equivalence to compare it to Roseanne's tweet. A woman calling another woman the c-word is not the same as a white person comparing a black person to an ape (human taxonomy notwithstanding).

On the subject of Roseanne, I was certainly surprised by the backlash and swift cancellation of her show. I think this was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

Personally, (and I know this will sound somewhat racist) I don't find the ape comparison as bad as most people do. I understand it's a very loaded comparison with a lot of historical context (similar to blackface). This certainly sets up a double-standard since white people can be called apes or monkeys and it's not considered taboo.

Finally, I find it ironic that the same people calling Hillary the c-word, in defense of the pussy-grabber-in-Chief, start clutching their pearls at this.

Roseanne in fact tried to claim that she didn't know Jarrett was black, tweeting at first "i thought she was saudi" then "i honestly thought she was Jewish and Persian" then "I mistakenly thought she was white". She later deleted all these tweets.

So which one is it? White? Half-Jewish and half-Iranian (Persian)? Saudi? (In reality, none of the above, she was born in Iran, but to African-American parents).

Ted Nugent called Hillary a "toxic cunt" and Obama a "subhuman mongrel". He also said this "Obama, he's a piece of shit, and I told him to suck on my machine gun. Let's hear it for him. And then I was in New York. I said, "Hey, Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset, you worthless bitch. Since I'm in California, how about Barbara Boxer, she might want to suck on my machine gun. And Dianne Feinstein, ride one of these you worthless whore."

Racist comments, misogynistic comments, promotion of violence (what Kathy Griffin was fired for) he made them all, and more. Trump invited him to the White House. Anyone who associates with Ted Nugent, in my view, forfeited any claim to being offended by anything, ever.

As for Roseanne, she tweeted in October 2016: "anyone who thinks Hillary isn't a cunt is a pussy". This is one of the many tweets she later deleted.

So Tom Arnold said that Rosanne probably wanted the show cancelled and Rosanne said that she forgives her TV children for betraying her.

Forgives? FORGIVES? They're not your children bitch! They're paid actors and you got them fired!!

Roseanne's sudden shift in politics surprised the hell out of me. I remember the original show approaching topics that used to be controversial in the 90s. Like when a lesbian woman kissed her and there was a warning before that episode that a woman was going to kiss another woman. Now she's tweeting racist remarks with no regard to how it might affect the careers of everyone who works with her. Then, I figured her out. Roseanne likes to be controversial. She likes being in the news. In the 90s, that meant saying such wild and crazy things like gay people are people too, and should have the same rights as straight people. It's no longer an outrageous thing to say that, so in order to piss people off, you have to call black people monkeys and gay people perverts. Back when she was more progressive, she didn't really care about gays and lesbians so much, she only cared about how much her comments about them got her in the news.

I'm not sure about that. Portraying gay people positively on a TV show was not nearly as controversial in the '90s than racism is today. It wasn't new - All in the Family did it 20 years before Roseanne. Even Friends portrayed a lesbian wedding positively, even though it generally strove to be apolitical and non-controversial. It definitely didn't get Roseanne fired; her show was on the air for 9 seasons and she won an Emmy.

That was actually a recurring thing in the 90, the lesbian kiss episode. Several TV shows done it, because it caused controversy but increased the ratings.

Thing is Ivanka posting a pictures of her with her kids isn’t really the same as other people posting themselves with their kids, cause unlike those randoms Ivanka can actually do something about the migrant kids seeing how she’s the hot daughter of trump(his words not mine). So to some it just seems like a slap in the face whether.

And it’s not like she’s just the hot daughter of the president with no hand in the decision making, she’s officially a White House adviser who’s boss just happens to be her semi incestish father. If she’s gonna nepotis she might as well do some good with it. Or sell her products whateves

Another fun tweet from the past: Trump used the C-word to describe himself (so to speak) back in 2013. He quoted someone who tweeted "you have a cunty demeanor" at him, and added "True!"

That's a weird thing to admit... but it shows that he doesn't actually think that the world is horribly offensive.

Yes, she can do something about it. But if she isn't able to accomplish the goal that random twitter users set for her does that mean she can't post pictures of herself and her kids? That's just petty imo. Why single her out? Does anyone else in the administration have any influence and also post pictures of their kids?

IamNotCreepy wrote:I definitely think it was wrong of her to say that. At best, it's ineffective, at worst it's an offensive and crude insult.

I was pointing out how it's okay to insult Presidential relatives just as long as it doesn't pertain to their ethnicity. Saying the Muslim brotherhood and Planet of the Apes had a baby and it's a person is vague, weird, mean spirited, and yes racist. Putting a picture of Donkey from Shrek and a person side by side to directly compare them isn't that far off, but donkeys aren't white and Chelsea Clinton is so it's okay.

The line is drawn at racism, sexual harassment, and domestic violence. Anything else is dandy. You can kill as long as it doesn't involve one of those three things.

It is being reported that ABC is considering or at least being pitched a show with the same cast and crew minus Roseanne. This replacement show would focus on the Darlene character and I'd be okay with that. Roseanne minus Roseanne can be just as funny.

I wouldn't say that. Kathy Griffin was fired from CNN's New Year's Eve broadcast after making that photo with the stimulated beheading of Trump. Gilbert Gottfried was the voice of the Aflac Duck, and he got fired after making jokes about the 2011 Japanese earthquake.

A couple of radio folks raised some good points, some of which I think are covered elsewhere in this thread, and some of which I'm regurgitating here. On the one hand, you have ABC, which is owned by Disney. Disney, throughout its history, hasn't been a hotbed of progressivism, but it's pretty clear that, today, they have a different standard than HBO or Comedy Central.

I don't think Bee should have apologized. I don't care if Roseanne apologizes, or doesn't, or does but sideswipes it two minutes later. That's my opinion. Yay me. Part of it is that Bee's joke, within the context it was uttered in, was actually funny. If Roseanne's tweet was supposed to be funny, it missed. Within the wider context of Roseanne's public personality, deeming her tweet racist is hard to avoid. Within the wider context of Bee's public personality, declaring her joke misogynistic, and therefore an equivalent of Roseanne's tweet, doesn't make sense.

In the BlehBlah ideal world, Bee would have responded by tweeting something along the lines of, "Man, it's tough that Roseanne got fired, because I, for one, support every pithecoid stunned-cunt who's trying to make an honest living in the rough and tumble #metoo world #MAGA".

Humour, like pornography versus art, has many subjective elements, but at the same time, art without exposed breasts isn't going to be mistaken for porn, as a general rule (standard Internet safe harbour statement). Blazing Saddles drops n-bombs all over the place, and dropping the n-bomb is undeniably racist in isolation, yet the movie is not racist. Roseanne's tweek is not part of a wider satire; it was, however wide one makes the context, racist. Had Kanye West tweeted the same thing, the reaction would have been different; surely still negative, but much different. Context matters.

Roseanne is an asshole. There is a part of me which feels for her, because I'm a big softy, and she has accomplished pretty amazing things while being dealt a shit hand, but she has made her asshole-ness obvious - indeed, part of her public persona - for a long, long time. Trump is a gigantic asshole, and the effect is magnified as he sits behind the most powerful desk in the world, between golf outings.

What I don't see is Roseanne going full-victim (never go full-victim, it's no way to win an Oscar). Yes, she's thrown a few limp rationalizations out there (Ambien - not even once, people). Trump, on the other hand, has inserted himself into this - by invitation, certainly - by playing-up the victim card. He is, as has done over and over, masterfully distracting from all the other dumb shit he's pulling-off. It is amazing that a guy who was handed a fortune, has nurtured a public image via race-baiting to the point where it helped him gain the highest office in the land, a guy who is obviously a misogynist, is able to successfully have a large portion of the American public follow his line that if Roseanne was fired for being an unfunny racist, then Trump deserves an apology from ABC.

That isn't to say everyone should have a no-holds barred attitude toward Trump, but let's face it - this is a guy who was fine with Howard Stern calling his daughter a hot piece of ass, has had no apologies about birtherism, bragging about pussy grabbing, his role in the Central Park Five, and on and on and on. He is one of the most aggressively offensive people to hold high office, yet Roseanne being fired is magically about how the media owes him an apology less the hypocrisy of the biased left-wing fake news be proven true? It's ludicrous, and it's working.

Back on that group of radio folks; one noted that it's not exactly difficult to find a funny person around whom to center a show about the struggles of a working-class family. It's not difficult to find someone to host a topical weekly comedy show, either. Roseanne brought some hefty ratings with her, but she made it obvious that her values weren't aligned with Disney. Ultimately, though, she, and her show is replaceable. She's Michael Richards, not Jerry Seinfeld.
