Halp, I'm confused about the free speech rights of all these celebrities, and I'm not sure when its right to fire them or not. Like, I usually go with the idea that, unless you bring direct attention to your work place while being some sort of offensive, its a violation of your free speech to fire you. Trying to expose someone who otherwise tried to keep hidden or keep their business seperate, unless they did something wrong thats relevant to their work, also shouldn't count towards getting them fired.

But, in I think Roseanne did something wrong (she had a free speech right, but the statement was not kosher), and I thought it was okay to fire her as a network decision.
Then Samantha Bee did something wrong and apologized (I thought it was hypocrisy on her part that she apologized for), and I thought that if the network wanted to fire them thats their business (though would rather they did not).
But what about the Ted Nugents (awful) and Kathy Griffins (probably shouldn't have been fired)? And what about that Professor who said stuff about Barbara Bush (also shouldn't be fired)?

And now I feel conflicted. One one hand, I have a belief that free speech with certain conditions overrides the ability to fire people, so they shouldn't be fired. But, certain people, celebrities in this case, did do something offensive as themselves, of their own volition, and in a public space. Yet, I rest easy with one instance, but I'm okay with another, even though I admitted that it wasn't up to "me" in the end whether such people stay employed.

As overused as this phrase is these days, free speech does not mean freedom from consequences of your speech. There are situations where it would be a violation of your rights to free speech to fire you for what you express, but they're a lot more limited in scope than people realize. Why should your employer be legally forced to bear the brunt of the consequences for what you say simply because you are legally allowed to say them, with no recourse to rectify the situation?

And in this case it's a pretty simple business calculation for ABC, since I'm sure the calls from advertisers pulling support for her show had already started rolling in. When your free speech is directly harmful to your employer's bottom line you'd better believe they're going to fire you.

If you haven't been following the fun that is Roseanne on twitter:

1. She blamed the incident on ambien.

2. She then claimed that there was a secret mind control cult that we were all apart of and several times mentioned MK-Ultra

3. She then claimed she exposed child abuse and trafficking

4. George Soros was mentioned several times thru all this fun.

I really feel she's cycling and hope she gets help soon. I've never been a fan of her, but i hate to see someone in need of help.

Yeah, she probably has mental problems. I've said it before; over the course of a few years and for no apparent reason, she want from a hardcore anti-Zionist who compared Israel to Nazis to a hardcore Zionist who compared Israel's critics to Nazis. In 2010, she was writing stuff like this on her website:

Zionists are German. weird hybrid. In order to defeat euro socialism, Hitler leveraged the rich jewish industrialists against the working class jews. The Russian accounts say that the last trains to Auschwitz were first class, as that is all the leverage left to the jewish oligarchs within the 'reich', (other than the jews like Hitler, Goebbels, and Himmler at the top). The scientists of the Reich successfully created a mutant human--a hybrid of Jewish mentality and German Resolve, the Zionist-- He who broke the back of the labor movements and socialism,--- which is the goal of National Socialism...

Roseanne herself said that she had "a few nervous breakdowns and was hospitalized several times". So, yeah, she probably needs help and shouldn't be in the public eye.

The show is being rebooted as "The Connors". I'm sure they're going to kill her off on the show but I think they should write it as her serving time in prison for something incredibly stupid. Oh and she's constantly attacking guards so she's in solitary confinement. That way there's no boo hoo fake sadness for the death of a character, they can still talk shit about Roseanne who can't make a guest appearance cuz she's in the hole.

I think this is it for Roseanne's career in entertainment. There's nothing to come back to and at her age there's no point in starting over in a few years.
