Next in line: Former Trump attorney, confidant, and hush money dispenser Michael Cohen. Cohen recently split from Trump's camp, and rumor is that it's because he's planning to cooperate with the FBI in order to avoid an indictment related to the Stormy Daniels fiasco. And he might as well cooperate, because the FBI announced today that they have obtained 731 pages of previously encrypted messages and call logs from his cell phone. No word on whether any of this material is related to the election and/or Russia.

Manafort was sent to jail because of witness tampering.

Trump claimed that Manafort “has nothing to do with our campaign” and “worked for me for a very short period of time... for what, 49 days, or something?” It was actually 145 days and he was the campaign chairman.

See if Hillary was POTUS there wouldn't be any talk of indictments, collusion or tampering or witnesses to anything because anyone involved would turn up dead in the early morning hours seemingly the victim of a random crime.

That's how gangsters operate.

Mueller has indicted 12 Russian intelligence agents for hacking the DNC and the Clinton campaign. The indictment mentions an unnamed "U.S. person" that one of the hackers was in contact with, and Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone says he is that person.

Mueller's spokesperson and Stone both point out that the indictment does not include any charge that the "U.S. person" knew that the person he was talking to was a foreign agent. But even if Stone is innocent here (which still seems to be an open question), this is a forceful assertion that yes, Russia was actively meddling in the 2016 campaign.

One point here that's getting a lot of attention is that according to the indictment, the Russians targeted Hillary's email accounts for the first time late in the day on July 27th, 2016--the very day that Trump "jokingly" asked them to do so in a news conference.

https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/07/ ... very-real/

There’s no way to know if it moved enough votes in key states to swing the election, but the leaks of hacked emails dominated multiple news cycles, embarrassed key Democrats, and sowed a degree of discord within the Democratic party. Republicans, including Donald Trump, exulted in the revelations and sometimes explicitly called for more. “Russia, if you’re listening,” Trump said publicly on July 27, 2016, “I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing.”

Interestingly, it appears the Russians may indeed have been listening. “After hours” on July 27, the conspirators “for the first time” targeted “email accounts at a domain hosted by a third-party provider and used by Clinton’s personal office,” according to Friday’s indictment.

I figured this might be relevant here too.

At this week’s summit in Helsinki, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed what President Trump described as an “incredible offer” — the Kremlin would give special counsel Robert S. Mueller III access to interviews with Russians who were indicted after they allegedly hacked Democrats in 2016. In return, Russia would be allowed to question certain U.S. officials it suspects of interfering in Russian affairs.

One of those U.S. officials is a former U.S. ambassador to Moscow, Michael McFaul, a nemesis of the Kremlin because of his criticisms of Russia’s human rights record.

On Wednesday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to rule out the Kremlin’s request to question McFaul and other Americans. Asked during the daily press briefing whether Trump is open to the idea of having McFaul questioned by Russia, Sanders said President Trump is “going to meet with his team” to discuss the offer.

What the hell is Trump playing at, using US citizens as bargaining chips?

He’s clearly gone to fifth-dimensional chess, that’s what.

(Presumably, the only way to stop a bad guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law is a good guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law, and thus transgender-friendly privacy law rights need to be enshrined in the Constitution as well)

Happy Roger-Stone-Is-Going-To-Federal-Prison Day!

Stone is charged with lying to Congress about his alleged role as a connection between "a senior Trump official" (rumored to be Steve Bannon) and WikiLeaks. Also witness tampering, for threatening to kill Randy Credico's dog.

Roger Stone walked out of a federal courthouse flashing the peace sign with both arms extended.

I mean, I didn't and wouldn't vote for someone who had an adviser that is a disciple of Richard Nixon to "Make America Great Again" but apparently we don't teach history in this country.

It came out a few years ago that Nixon also committed treason by convincing the South Vietnamese to scupper a peace deal in hopes of helping his re-election. Johnson knew about this but didn't act because he couldn't definitively tie it to Nixon at the time and it would have revealed that we were spying on the South Vietnamese. Sure sounds familiar to me; no wonder Stone likes Nixon.

Nixon's sabotage of the peace process combined with his paranoia in Watergate destroying his political capital ultimately lead to several more years of war and the the complete destruction of South Vietnam. If Trump conspired with Russia, that's a US enemy rather than an ally, but at least it hasn't led to the complete destruction of a US ally. Well, not yet, anyways.
