I would if I could.

Andropov4 wrote:Well, I'm very glad you've decided so. Are there any other edicts you'd like to hand down, oh lord and master?

I've posted twice in this thread already as to why that's the case, so there is no basis for you to act as though this is a unilateral and arbitrary decision I've personally made.

Seriously. I don't think there's much of a problem, if there even is one at all.

There is a problem, as I've pointed out many times; the moderators do not know what is and isn't on-topic in CAaSS. Until the rules are defined, they are not able to enforce them.

Yes, but see, you and I disagree. I don't actually think there's an issue that needs solving. As far as I can tell, there is not any gross misuse of the CAaSS forum. So why do we need to codify what is and isn't allowed?

Because until then the "void for vagueness" principle prohibits moderators from enforcing anything about whether something is or isn't off-topic. I've said this multiple times already.

What needs to be enforced? Where is the actual problem we're solving? There is not, in my opinion, any kind of serious issue with off-topic threads in CAaSS. Until there is, I feel this is a pretty pointless discussion to have.

Threads being on-topic in CAaSS. That's in the title of the thread, I don't know how I can possibly make this any clearer.

Furthermore, nobody knows whether we have an issue with off-topic threads in CAaSS because nobody knows what threads are off-topic for CAaSS. That's what we're intending to clarify here.

All subsequent questions that I've answered three times already will be met with links to the previous answers.

Well, since you're apparently feeling prickly, I'll leave it with this: I do not feel that there is any problem with how things are currently, and any sort of whitelist will only serve to limit discussion to what some people feel is worthy or interesting. As such, I support...doing nothing at all, because there is a very limited number of people who feel that there is even a problem that needs addressing.

*takes a deep breath* A'ight, let's try this. Can you give me three examples of threads currently in the CAaSS section that you don't feel belong there?

Under my proposed rules, the following three threads would not belong in CAaSS:

Ariana Grande licks your doughnuts because kids are fat.

Social Justice Absurdity Thread

Amy Schumer GQ Star Wars Shoot

But those are current events, are they not?

They are not. Most of them are current, but none meet sufficient standards for notability. Again, see the requirements I laid out. You are also free to add to my requirements, or suggest ones you think are better.

ShuaiGuy wrote:You could add something like social trends, but that might go in loud noises or general. Celebrity gossip might fit, because it's a current event, but it's not serious stuff. Unless it's Selena Gomez. I AM SERIOUS ABOUT HER!

What would constitute a social trend? Do you have an example?

Celebrity news doesn't seem significant enough. It should go in GenDisc.

Whose standards of "notability"? What seems trivial to you might be positively riveting to another member. The "Social Justice Absurdity" thread could be moved to Loud Noises, but the other two are actually current events. Whether or not something is "serious" enough to warrant space in that fora would be a constant clusterfuck of opinionated bickering. Is that what you want?

Shuai wrote:Also, if you guys don't care about these rules why are you so angry about them?

I never said I don't care and I'm not angry - just wary and slightly confused. (Never a good combination at this late hour.)

I laid out standards of notability in my original post. If you think there are problems with them, you are free to recommend changes.

There have to be some standards of notability; it can't be a forum for anything literally happening now. I just went to the bathroom. A thread about that would not be suitable for CAaSS.
