"Mark forums as read" option under "View unread posts"

Postby Piter Lauchy » Thu Jan 07, 2016 3:36 am

Hell yeah, three posts in and already bitching and moaning!
Anyway, the way how I usually use forums it that I view all unread posts, open those that interest me in a new tab and then click "Mark forums as read", so I don't have to see those pesky uninteresting threads anymore.
I've seen that this button is available on the main page, but not on the unread posts page. It's just a tiny thing and I'm probably the only one who'd like to have it, but another forum I visit (which I'm pretty sure uses the same software) has it and it is oh so convenient. Thanks in advance, regardless of the outcome!

Praise Jesus, especially when it's sunny outside because Jesus would totally be cool with you praising while you get a nice tan.

Due to classes, reading about Constitutional Law, and general laziness, I'm making forum improvements slower than I'd like to. I'll ask Tess about this, but presuming she approves, I'll see if I can add it; hopefully it can be done without an issue.

You know they change color if you've read the posts, yes?

Sunny, that only works if you obsessively read - or at least open - every thread, like me.

Exactly. I've got like 40 pages of unread threads, many of which are full of threads I frankly don't give a damn about. It would be nice to get rid of all that clutter.

Oh, thank goodness, someone finally mentioned this. The red threads and subforums have been driving me nuts for ages, but I'm far too lazy to do anything about it (looking at you, Current Affairs/Serious Stuff). My tried and true method of not saying anything for fear of being irritating, and waiting for someone else to do something about it, has finally paid off!

You da real MVP, Piter.

What are y'all talking about? I just use the "Unread Posts" tab...and read every single one. I usually have a little more than two pages worth when I get on in the morning (aka early afternoon) and when I get on after work. It's not that bad...

Edit: To below post, since I don't want to reply just to say this, that is my go-to method. Not that I don't love every post that comes along, but we have reached a volume that is too much for me to keep up with. Usually about two pages a day. This really helps.

There's a really easy way around this anyway. Simply read all the things that interest you in the unread posts section, then return to the board index and check "mark forums read". This removes them from your unread posts list en masse.

It looks like Piter saw this, but to others, you can totally just do that.

I just go to unread tabs and look at whats orange and whats not and I just decide which I want to click on. Its the same way I handle the WoW forums and any other forums I use.

Does it honestly bother people seeing all of that orange?

The problem with that is my (highly irrational, I know) fear that in the time it takes me to do that, someone might have posted something new, which I would then miss because I marked it as read.
Yes, I am a tiny bit neurotic.

...yes. Yes it does. It represents failure. I'd rather sweep that under the rug than have to confront it daily.
