Necromancy

Postby Readersprite » Fri Jan 10, 2014 10:45 pm

While strolling luxuriously through this forum's past, I often chance upon a discussion I'd like to have been a part of, but it has been months since the last update.

Is it considered rude to want to jump into the discussion late in that thread's lifespan? If so, are there other rules of etiquette I should have read prior to opening my fat mouth?

My basic question: is the use of electromagnetic sorcery permissible for the purposes of resurrecting dead threads?

I have never seen it be a problem. If it's something where two individuals had been going back and forth and it ended with a mod stepping in and saying "Let's agree to disagree" it's probably rude to pile onto someone who most likely isn't really around to respond anymore, especially if it's just reiterating what has already been said...but I mean, that's true of a thread that died two months ago or a thread that died yesterday.

Just use your best judgment, if you think you've got something to add, that's fantastic!

Most def not a mod but I can think of one person who might balk at such an idea. Then again, maybe not.

A Paladin, obviously. Necromancy is totes dark magic and as such, our resident Paladin (who lives in the abandoned factory that he claims is a castle) is going to strike you down.

I dare not say the name. To name something gives it pow-ah.

The title of this thread makes me think of a possible Bucholz article, "So You've Raised the Dead".

Zombies and ghosts and lichs, oh my!

Man created logic and because of that was superior to it. Logic He gave unto me, but no more. The tool does not describe the designer. More than this I do not choose to say. More than this you have no need to know.

I'm not a mod either, but personally, I love when an old thread gets bumped and brought back into my mind. Particularly because I'm kind of a procrastinator and there will always be discussions where I was about to jump in with a super insightful opinion, but then I got distracted by a stupid .gif or something and then the whole thing slipped out of my mind completely. And since I'm also socially awkward, if I ever remember, I don't like being the one bringing up the subject but more of a "me too" kind of person.

So, cool.

Ditto. I often enjoy seeing old treads resurface, so long as the person who digs them up has something to add. By all means dig up a thread if there has been a new development, or you think you have a fresh perspective.

A lot of threads are just "add to a list" or "talk about your experience" too, so I don't see a problem with people digging them up because they are either new to the forum or just thought of something new to add.

If nobody else is interested in contributing to the zombie thread, it will quickly drop back to the bottom of the list where it belongs. I don't really understand the angst that thread necromancy seems to generate on some forums.
