Oh, no. Crumpets and muffins are entirely different things.

Well, I meant what was in the picture was what we call an english muffin and that I was sure of what is was. Sorry if I confused you at all.

The things in the packets are definitely muffins. But while it's hard to be sure, the ones on the plate looked like crumpets to me too. But I think it's just the picture. It would be odd to photograph crumpets in front of packets of muffins.

Well when you split the muffin, it has the little nooks and crannies like a crumpet.

Not really like a crumpet. Not any muffin I've had anyway. They're spongier than bread, but closer to bread than to a crumpet. And the edges kinda look like a crumpet too, the way they seem to slope out towards the bottom. Or is it just my eyes?

I read you can make an egg circle with a mason jar screw top, or by using a can opener on both he top and the bottom of a tuna can. I've never tried it myself, but the tuna can seems like it would be kind of dangerous.

It might be okay if you used the opener inside the can rather than under the rim, if that makes sense. What's a mason jar?

Mason jars are used for canning.

So it's just like a jam jar? I don't understand how the lid would work as an egg ring - it's closed at one end.

There's two separate parts to the lid, a flat piece, that's balanced on top, and then a screw top ring that get put around and seals the flat piece on top. The screw top makes a kind of wide, shallow egg ring if it's from a large jar. Here's how they look, basically:

I bet you could use a round biscuit cutter.
