My mum's afraid of dogs, but her family always had a dog when she was growing up and she was fine with their dogs. My grandma always used to tell me about how all her children learned to walk holding onto her Alsatian, Elsa.

Lots of very sad stories here mixed with some good ones.
(Jamish, I certainly like that picture of yours. And was that dog with all the birds yours Australia or did you find it over the internet?)

Your grandmother had a German Shepherd?

*gasp!*

You wouldn't by any chance happen to have any photos of her?

Why do you want photos of someone's grandma? Weirdo.

Alright, well, anyway, I had a dog story, I had it written out, but I deleted it.

One persons grandmother is another persons mother, one persons mother is another persons gal. For all this to have occurred that gal got an Apollo 1 exploding inside her. Remember that now.

My family never had a dog, neither did any of our friends. I'm kind of afraid of dogs. I have no idea why because I was never bitten by one or anything like that.

My parents tell me that when I was four, I wandered away from the playground and they found me in the company of several large dogs. Which could be the origin of my phobia, except I wasn't scared by them at all.

My Nephthys would catch birds and let them go unharmed, after she found out people liked that. She was such a flirt, because I'd spoiled her (coyote/shepherd mix), I once found her surrounded by kids asking their mom for more ice cream "for the dog".

I'll always be proud of the time my Rufus (chow/lab mix) chased a deer to me; sure, my stupid ex saved me, but I'm still proud Rufus thought I could help him get a deer barehanded or something, and ex was so bitterly jealous.

When I was a kid my beagle mix would chase rabbits and slow down before he could catch them, to keep the chase going. He also figured out how to get through gates, but fought a cactus once, for "biting" him.

Well, not long after I said that I'm afraid of dogs, I actually met a dog that didn't scare me a bit. I was on a holiday with my family, and the dog came out of the garden of a forester and came to us. I suppose he (I think it was a male) didn't scare me because he was small and very friendly. I petted him, but I'm used to cats so I kept feeling I'm doing something wrong, because he didn't purr.

Here's a picture of the dog with me in the backround.

Here, I approach with caution.
