We need to bring school uniforms back, and have the department of education pay the fees for purchasing and fitting, in order to act as a screening tool for ill behaved and and anti-social children and as a means of allowing teachers to exercise discipline.

America, we're bringing Sailor Suits back!

Hears the Sailor Moon theme song in the background.

Wait, what does this have to do with Sailor Suits?

It's funny how what's controversial for you is the norm for Australia, and I certainly agree with you. Something I liked most about schooling was that no matter how rich or poor you were, you all were expected to dress the same.

I certainly think that school uniforms should be provided by the schools themselves though since the poorer kids were commonly disadvantaged regardless as they could not afford to get specialised clothes and the right "socks" and "shoes", they only could afford one pair for all matters. So having these uniforms being provided by the schools themselves would go a long way in getting rid of barriers related to wealth and make it more welcoming.

Personally I think private schools should be abolished and education should be free, it is our duty and our responsibility to make sure our next generations are well educated.

I don't see how a uniform does any of those things.

How would making people wear the same clothes screen for behavior? It seems like making everyone wear the same thing would just make people blend in easier. You'd probably screen for homes with poverty or single moms who don't have time to do laundry for their lazy kids, but looking like a mess doesn't mean someone's anti-social or going to get into fights.

How would it allow teachers to exercise discipline? I'm curious. I had a teacher in the 90s who tried to take a hat off a kid's head, after he refused when she asked nicely, and the student backhanded her, and broke her jaw. She was out of school for two months and wasn't sure if she was going to ever teach again. How would making students wear uniforms protect teachers from getting beat up?

We're not paying much for education as it is. Teachers make jack squat, and even then a lot of them pay for school supplies out of their own pocket because they can be awesome sometimes. If you make the Department of Education start paying for uniforms, they'll cut into other supplies and teacher salaries and the quality of education itself will go down.

Controversial take I've meant to express in a review for months, but now triggered by a further round of awards: Killing Eve is a sloppy, poorly written, tonally confused, fitfully entertaining show that doesn't deserve the mountains of critical praise being heaped upon it. It wastes a great cast on obnoxious material most of them can't rise above despite their best efforts, and the direction is unmemorable at best. If it weren't primarily created by and staffed with women in the normally male-dominated spy thriller genre, it would have piddled into the wind as quickly as it came and be remembered only for its puzzling mediocrity.

And for a show that's been lauded for its progressiveness,
Spoiler: show
making the typical old, grizzled cop character bisexual to build audience interest in a really unique character, and revealing his sexuality in one of few genuinely touching scenes, only to brutally kill him off in a telegraphed, unbearably stupid way one scene later
is just as shitty of a tactic as the trope has always been, and it should have resulted in some level of internet outrage.

I think disco is more enjoyable by people who weren't around when it came into being. I think it's perfectly fine music but I was born in 1980. Pop culture in the 80's was very derisive of disco music and it was made to be the uncoolest thing ever. I've always been fascinated by how disco disappeared completely while other genres that were niche at one point like rap and edm manage to stick around.

I suppose you could have an incredible rap or edm experience in nothing more than a large basement while you couldn't with disco? Idk.

Sarah Jeong should keep her job, so long as she doesn't do it again (or on an official account) while on NY Time's payroll, and everyone should lay off of her since she has apologized.
New York Times, and everyone who defends those tweets and that decision, however, shouldn't be left off the hook on account of being such massive hypocrites and shysters.
