The rant thread.

Discussion, in general

The rant thread.

Postby LaChaise » Mon Apr 15, 2013 11:49 am

I'm creating this thread for all our members seeking a place to evacuate their problems.

In order to preserve it from the foreseen trolls'n'troubles, I'd like to establish a few rules before starting:

-Name calling is accepted, but no direct insults. You may not care about your personal info, but directly calling your boss or your girlfriend a "shit-loving squirrelsucker" and giving his/her name can't have good consequences. (also, I'd worry if my girlfriend sucked squirrels)

-This is NOT a thread for cracked-related matters. I want this to be about real problems, not a thread to rant about other internet rants. Plus, I think there is a thread dedicated to that. So don't come here and rant about cracked, unless your rant is "cracked killed my father".

-As angry or sad or desperate as you could be, please keep it civil between members. What I mean by that is that everyone has problems, and that's no competition. I don't want any discrimination between someone who had a bad day at work and someone who just stepped on a mine in an unpronounceable country. A bad day is a bad day, and when it's your turn you couldn't care less about the children in Africa.

With that said, I'll start.

So, let's start with a bit of context.
As many of you know, I've been in pain for the last eight years. Being twenty, that makes a good chunk of my life spent suffering. Recently, the pain worsened. All the test results were negative, and my doctor told me I may have fibromyalgia. The only way to have a diagnostic being the elimination of all other options, I had to take even more tests, just to be sure it wasn't polyarthritis or something like that.

Which brings us to the reason of my anger.
Last week, I finally had an MRI after a three months wait (keep in mind that I can't have any appropriate treatment as long as nothing is confirmed). This morning, I had an appointment with my rheumatologist. As I was told the MRI was the last stage before the diagnostic, I hoped to finally be done with this shit.
Instead, he told me that I had to be admitted in a hospital, not to receive any treatment but TO HAVE A FEW MORE FUCKING TESTS. To "be sure it's not a rare disease", because "fibromyalgia is quite rare with men".

So, what you mean is that an uncommon disease corresponding to all my symptoms would be too far-fetched compared to a rare disease nobody ever heard of?

Do you need my fucking spine to pop out and spell "IT'S FIBROMYALGIA, JUST DEAL WITH IT"? I don't think it would be long enough to do that, unfortunately. Also, I'd like to keep my spine where it is.

So now, I just have to wait the fucking hospital to call me and choose a date. And I still won't have any treatment to calm the crippling pain.

Squirrelsuckers.

Oh boy. Have you seen Jim Jeffries' new FX show, "Legit" ? It has a disabled person as a character, and I think he is a good role model for anyone going through something serious like that.

First is first, tests = money for hospitals. If you don't need the tests, you don't need the tests. Doctors love waving their degrees around and saying "How would you know, you ain't a a DOKTOR!" but the truth is there is a lot of "taking advantage" in the medical profession. You should research your thing, and consult with an independent specialist, and then make an informed decision.

My grandpa was blind in russia due to diabetes, but he could see sillhouettes out of one eye, and we came to america specifically to find sspecialists. They ended up doing so many tests and experimental surgeries that they totally messed up and scarred his eyes... completely butchered them. It was covered by insurance so they made a whole bunch of money. There was very little chance that he would see anyway, and they knew it, so they gave him a completely unneccessary operation we later found out. He needed one thing, and they did like a cornea operation and his cornea was fine, it was another thing so they messed it up. Cornea operations worth more money....

Sorry I couldn't be more positive. I'm sure everything will work out, but it's silly to not be aware of a very dark side of a profession who is supposed to help you.

Jesus, Chaise. I really want to be encouraging, but instead here's some real talk.

My wife, I'm pretty sure, suffers from fibro too. She was on Reddit a while back and there was a thread discussing it, and to my unmitigated horror a fair chunk of the doctors, not med students but actual, licensed doctors, dismissed it as "all in your head". My wife had a post prepared, and deleted it before she posted it and burst into tears because her malady wasn't being given the weight it demanded.

You know what I think? I think it's a very real possibility that fibro is a psychological ailment over a physical one. That doesn't in the slightest change how important it is to treat it, properly, with respect. Now I guess you're in France and I don't know how they view mental health there, but in America it's say one thing, do another. We should be treating emotional and psychological illness with the same amount of gravity as the damn plague, but we don't and as a result suicide, the most unnatural death ever, is the number 10 most lethal killer of humans every year. If fibro is really all in your head, who the hell cares?

It pisses me off that the only way to diagnose it is exclusion. It pisses me off that for the most part, it's treated with anti-depressants. There has to be a better way. Pure speculation here, but I bet there is, and there just isn't any urgency to find it because most doctors are willing to brush it aside for sexier diseases. I'm so sorry for your pain, buddy.

For years, and years, and years, I had this full body tick/tremor. Like a build up of stress/energy and I had to shake it out. So often that it would leave me exhausted. I had to take naps all day. I still get it, if I think about it too much, and if someone calls me out on it, it gets worse (at least its manageable without medication now). Which is the exact diagnosis of psychogenic tremors resulting from Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Finally had a neurologist tell me what it was when I was 17. Doesn't mean it doesn't still exist, doesn't mean it doesn't still suck.

If someone can't related to something, or they don't know what they are talking about, they should just shut the hell up.

Man, I was going to vent some steam in here about my first case of hemorrhoids (external, thrombosed, not cool), but given the rants from LaChaise and TM, I'm feeling a lot better about my lot in life (at least when lying down, if not while sitting). My hat's off to you both for living with conditions many would use as excuses for being out-and-out jerks, yet remaining quite unflappable, positive people.

I can't even talk publicly about the thing that has me the most upset now, but I'm angry. Just super angry. Sometimes, you meet people who restore your faith in humanity and it's awesome, and then other days, you're dealing with the jackasses who tear that faith down, stomp on it, and kick it into the mud, then make you eat it.

So there is a person like that who I need to deal with and it's just the last freaking straw. My health's been down, even though I thought it was going up. I was going to start working on finishing up school but who knows if I'll be able to even show up for class by the time the semester starts? And growing up in general is just so weird and it's hard. I don't like the responsibility. There's no safety net. No one taught me how to actually walk on this tightrope, come on, I really don't want to make these choices.

So it's just been a bad day on top of struggling with some stuff already and I just feel like I want to crawl into a hole and pull the covers up over that hole, because this hole comes with covers, and it's a very comfortable hole and I could probably stay in it forever. And then I feel rotten about that. I have people to take care of and people who need me to be strong for them and people who need me to forgive them and I should do all of these things for these people but I don't want to because I'm just selfish and I don't want to. I want to just take care of myself, and be a little weak, and to be angry and hurt for the rest of my damn life if I want to be, and I want to scream. So I guess this is kind of like screaming.

Kate, I can't speak to your problem specifically because I don't know what it is, and it sounds like I don't want to... but I'll tell you this, punkin: you can only be generous with the things you have. If you're all out of strength and energy, it won't do any good trying to give of yourself, either for you or the ones you want to be strong for. Take that little bit of time for yourself and give your strength a chance to grow, be angry if you need to be for a while, and when your power returns you'll be twice as good for the ones you love, and for yourself. And all the best!

And now my dumb rant, nowhere near as relevant as the others thus far.

So the wife and I went to the gym last night, and afterward went searching for some dinner. It was nearly 10:00 here in Wichita, so most places were gonna be closed. We settled on Burger King. I got a Chipotle Chicken Sandwich, apparently.

I'll tell you this: I'd had high hopes. I saw carmelized onions and pepper-jack cheese, and a chipotle mayo sounded good too; I'm not a mayo fan but I definitely enjoy some chipotle. I asked for it on the side, though, and I'm glad I did because, I kid you not, I got a full quarter cup of the stuff. Is that how much they'd have slathered on? Also the pepper-jack was really pepper-processed cheese. Why, as a people, did we decide to lend our name to the crappiest "cheese" on the planet? I ended up knocking everything but the onions off and spreading just a little bit of the mayo on the chicken itself. It was actually not horrible, I guess: it kind of tasted like a grilled chicken sandwich with soggy barbecue potato chips on it.

I used to love me some Burger King. What a disappointment!

I usually just go with the classics. Burger King, well, give me a whopper. McDonalds? Its BigMac time. Usually the new stuff is in the test stages, and I just end up being a test subject.

In Singapore, there was the Prosperity burger or some shit. I mean, it tasted alright, but I couldnt eat it without a handful of napkins. Way too much sauce.

Guys, (and I address the fast-food wizards) sometimes you don't have to just put all the sauce you can think of on a burger. Nuance, men!

I don't think forums should have official threads like this one. In fact, I made a rant about it in Kongregate: http://www.kongregate.com/forums/2-off-topic/topics/285010-why-we-need-to-stop-making-official-threads

That's a very interesting rant. In that sense, it fits here. I'm not sure I agree with the message. I'm also not sure this is the place to explain why that is.

So I stay on topic, and because it might do me some good:

I had a really bad day a few days ago, wrote it all out here, then came back and deleted it. I felt a lot better yesterday, but today, after coming home from tutoring children and getting my Kindle, I haven't been able to leave my room. My anxiety keeps getting worse. This sort of passive posting is nice, since I have delete and edit options, but I'm not sure I could even handle IRC right now. I promised my friend last December I'd go see a doctor about it, but I can't bring myself to do that, especially since the last time I had a psychiatrist, she made all of my problems worse. Five years of psychology, and I have no idea what she was trying to accomplish.

Read it. Sound reasoning, but I think we'll start worrying when we get 10000 members in this forum. We're just about the two hundred mark right now.

Dottoe, what the heck's going on? Maybe we can help out, if in no other way than by supplying a dry, absorbent shoulder for you.
