F*****g Ants.

Discussion, in general

I've been using borax traps and it's working fairly well. I haven't seen any ants. Spiders, on the other hand...can't move an inch without seeing one.

No worries, Suns. Spiders are friends. For a while we were taking spiders out to the garden to eat pests, but now that the garden is more or less possessed by spiders, we just kind of let them run. UNLESS they're in the shower. THEN they suffer a blubbery, moist death.

Notch is spot on. Spiders might well be scary, but they are good.

There aren't enough in my house.

I kind of like ants, myself. Unless they're the big and bitey kind I usually just let them do their thing.

I don't mind them doing their thing-outside. I am less of a fan of seeing a line of them eating my sugar. It has happened.

I'm having ant problems right now myself, and there's not much I can do about it. Oddly enough, they aren't going after food. They're mostly in the bathroom and kitchen, right around the sinks and the tub. It's not as though we're experiencing a drought either (which might account for them coming inside in pursuit of water). I can't use poison or traps because I have a little baby kitten and I'm afraid she's going to get into it, since she can, and does, fit into much smaller hidey-holes than my bigger cats can.

Ashtherion, if you want to come over and hang out, I'll temporarily rescind my edict about spiders being allowed inside. But be warned, the last spider I saw was being eaten by ants in the laundry room this past weekend.

Dasha, I have a small horde of animals. Rest assured when I say that the borax traps I got at the grocer cannot be eaten by a kitten.

Thanks! I'll look for them. Tomorrow is payday, so perhaps by this weekend the ants will be evicted.

I mean, I've tried some crazy stuff over this summer, including sprinkling baby powder around (somebody on the internet said it disrupts their scent trails), the old "half can of soda to drown them" trick, which only attracts more, and just shooting them with water from a spray bottle, which is temporarily satisfying but doesn't fix the overall problem.

I'm gonna have to try those Borax traps, cause I'm in the same boat as Dasha. I've got two adorable kittens and ants who are somehow finding their way into my house through my bedroom window. Which is really unfortunate since my windowsill is where I put my glass of water for the night and the other day I would have drank an ant if I'd been a little less awake.

That's why I have a bottle of water for the night. With the added bonus that if you reach for it in the dark and knock it over, it doesn't soak your bed.

I just figure if I swallow the ant it's bonus protein.
