Things that are things.

Discussion, in general

My friend is being forced under threat of termination encouraged to wear a Christmas elf hat at work for December. The hat is knitted, and has a pair of pointy elf ears poking up through it in authentic fashion. Amusingly, the ears are an Ed Sheeranian shade of white, while my friend is the daughter of Tamil immigrants. When I pointed the ears out, we decided that the North Pole's toy workshop needs to hire some POCs before tumblr gets wind of this.

I am fairly certain a dude on OKCupid has stopped speaking with me because I said I enjoyed The Last Jedi. Of all the reasons a person might immediately cease contact with me, this is probably my favorite.

Well I was roaming the internet and I stumbled upon this. If someone has $3.50 to spare I implore you to read it and tell me what happens. So did not only Cracked reference a certain dog lover which you guys know and tolerate, but someone actually also based his novel on me too?

I feel like a jerk today because:

1) Last week I came down with an absolutely awful cold
2) On Wednesday, I cancelled plans to see a non-Star Wars movie with a friend on Thursday, because I figured I would still be sick that day abd I knew I would be taking off from work to rest up
3) I slept basically all of Thursday and felt way better by Thursday evening
4) There is a movie theater 5 minutes from apartment, and I wondered if they had any tickets left to see Star Wars on Thursday night
5) By some miracle, they did have tickets left
6) I bought a ticket and saw Star Wars
7) I posted on Facebook about seeing Star Wars
8) The friend I was supposed to hang out with liked the Facebook status about seeing Star Wars

I am meeting with her tonight to see the movie we were supposed to see last week, and I am now realizing that it definitely 100% looks like I lied and ditched her in order to go see the new Star Wars.

...oops.

I'm not an expert north american ungulate identifier but I think those are whitetail deer. Possibly mule deer. They certainly are not gazelles. In the words of the great zoologist, Nate Diaz: "This is America, motherfucker. Get it right."

My girlfriend put on some glittery Rudolf inspired antlers which I acknowledged with a look. I held her by both hands in front of me and said:

"You're deer to me."

She rolled her eyes and facepalmed. Still got a laugh.

The retail holiday season is over, and that means the season hires are either leaving or learning that they're being kept on. Two guys got let go from the 6 person team I'm on today; one was a seasonal hire who kept disappearing for hours on end, the other was a normal hire who kept on calling out or leaving early. I feel kinda bad for the second guy because we talked a lot and I know he was trying what he thought was his best. I asked the store manager if that meant that another newish, non-seasonal hire was also leaving, because even though he doesn't have attendance issues, he doesn't seem to retain knowledge about how to do the job. She responded with, "Well, do you want him on your team?" "No." "Then he's gone."

I haven't felt that powerful in a long time, and it felt pretty good.

JamishT was a heck of a guy,
With a devilish twinkle in his eye.
With his hand-picked flowers,
And his feel-good powers,
He made all the girls blush and sigh.

I know that feeling. At a previous job, someone was interviewing whom I knew from high school. The guy was crazy and attacked people on multiple occasions at school. I told my manager about what had happened, and he was like, "Yeah, I'm definitely not going to hire him then."

I felt powerful, but I also felt a little bad. It was probably for the best, though.

Yesterday the neighbors started celebrating New Year's around ten PM with fireworks.

Apparently they had some left over, and decided to do a second New Year's celebration around nine.
