Things that are things.

I've finally arrived in 2006 and decided to join Twitter. Only one thing I don't like so far: Stuff liked by people I follow showing up in my timeline. Is there a way to turn that off?

As far as I know, there is not, Piter. I am interested in which part of Twitter you land in though. Just off the top of my head, I can think of:

Political Twitter (which can be broken down by nationality and ideology, e.g. American Liberal Twitter or UK Labour Twitter)
Dog Twitter
Cat Twitter
Sports Twitter (can be broken down by sport, of course)
Finance Twitter
[Insert Genre] Music Twitter
Survivor Twitter
Journalism Twitter
Cast Iron Twitter
YouTube Twitter
Religious Twitter

Anyway, I've also heard that Twitter Lists is a great way to find people to follow, but I've never used them. Just something to look into if you want.

And lastly, if you're gonna join Political Twitter, you should watch this video:

I had store credit at Sears I needed to use up, so I got a new bathmat and a couple hand towels. Had I gone earlier in the closure sale I might have gotten an actual bath towel, but oh well. I used to get my pants and underwear at Sears, but then I outgrew their largest pants size and they stopped making the underwear (it was a store brand), so I stopped going. Even though they outlived their uselessness to me, it's still sad to see them go. Plus, my second-oldest credit card is a Sears Visa or MasterCard I never use; wonder how its inevitable closure will affect my credit.

One of the fighters from One: Warrior's Dream made me chuckle.

Bonus: An Australian commentary team having way too much fun with another funny fighter name.

I have no balance on the Sears card, but I have had it since 2010. (I opened a small balance to get a $30 discount and paid it off the same month.) Credit scores are in part determined by use-to-credit ratios, which since I think the Sears card had a line of like a thousand-something won't affect me all that much (I have two other credit cards with a combined limit of about ten thousand, I think), and average length of credit. I think actually my Amazon card is almost as old and my Discover card is definitely older, so losing the Sears line won't affect me much either.

I’ve been talking to a recruiter from a company that does high-end security systems this week. He told me that they weren’t necessarily looking for someone with a lot of experience, and thought the managers would really like me. I had a Skype interview yesterday with three people, and it seemed to go well.

So naturally, I got a call about an hour ago and was told that they went with someone else.

Question, do you look and talk like you're from New Jersey?

It could be that they're either intimidated by how Joisey you are or disappointed you're not Jersey enough.

The job would have been in NYC, but the people I talked to were in Texas, so... maybe one of those? (Also, who in Jersey actually says “Joisey?” I think I’ve only ever heard it from New Yawkez.)

That's state-ist!

Okay now, one question. Has anyone played Doom?

You can use a roomba to map your dwelling and play your house as a level.

If it's the original Doom then you can also create your house as a level by simply mapping it out with a measuring tape. However my house would be a pretty disappointment.

I'm pulling the old post-Christmas all nighter to get my sleeping pattern back in order, and watching NYE coverage from the different timezones as the roll along. Mostly I'm just wondering what the flat earthers think of this. Is this all part of the elaborate hoax or does the flat earth have timezones for some inexplicable reason?

Because apparently I'm a masochist, I looked it up, and it's basically the second one. The sun is a spotlight that rotates around the North Pole. Apparently confirmed by Mrs. Peach et al at this forum.
