If you don't remember, this is a video of that event.
At the time this seemed like little more than a sad indication of what unscrupulous small mma promotions are doing in their sketchy unsanctioned events, and of the situation of fighters who are compelled to work with them. A completely untrained warm body against someone trying to make a real career of it, and forced to this depressing low to get there. There is a lot of exploitation at this level of prizefighting, and for many aspiring professionals this kind of thing is what they have to do for a while to make it.
This is the winner of that shady casino prizefight as she appeared a few hours ago:Spoiler: show
From a 24 year old debutante taking a bumfight in an effort to launch her professional career, Ilima MacFarlane has gone on to win and subsequently defend the Bellator MMA women's flyweight world championship. She is also the reigning EBI brazilian jiu-jitsu champion as an accomplished student of tenth planet. I find it a pretty heartwarming story. She got exposure from being the B side of a viral video, and subsequently picked up by a legit fighting organisation in which she climbed her way to champion.
She picked up the win for her first title defence last night with a very well worked armbar on Alejandra Lara, after dominating generally with her slick tenth planet grappling prowess. This was her third straight submission victory in mma, and her eighth win in a row.
Sadly, there is no information that I can find on the whereabouts of her old opponent.
