Evidently "Unsolicited Dick Pic is the name of my band" is not an appropriate line to say in the middle of an adult conversation.

Well, frankly I don't care for adult conversation then and shall no longer be associated with it.

I know about the Greek adventure into Anatolia, how the Greeks, egged on by the Western Allies of WWI, invaded Turkey in an attempt to gain more land for Greece and to topple Ataturk's government, how they overstretched, and as a result lost Izmir and Eastern Thrace, which had been promised them by the allies.

What I did not know is that the defeat was blamed in the royalists who too over in 1920. King Alexander had played little role in Greek politics under Venizelos before he died at age 27. The Greeks held a referendum on returning the pro-German Constantine to the throne, and as a result of this, the Allies withdrew support. I doubt that the Greeks could have ousted Ataturk; his forces held the advantages of terrain, supply lines, and of course a much better leader. Yet if Venizelos had remained at the helm, the disaster would have been blamed on him. And if he'd kept the support of the Allies, they might have exerted diplomatic pressure on Ataturk to let the Greeks keep Eastern Thrace.

So Greek and possibly Turkish history would have been different if Alexander hadn't died prematurely. And how did Alexander die? He was bitten by a Barbary macaque and the wound turned septic. In other words: an angry monkey changed the course of history.

Then the LORD said to me, "Go again, love a woman who is loved by her husband, yet an adulteress, even as the LORD loves the sons of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes."

Before the invention of antibiotics, people died from ridiculously minor injuries. Like Rupert Brooke, an English poet who died in World War I. Specifically, he died from a mosquito bite that got infected and caused sepsis. Or Bobby Leach, a man who became famous for go over Niagara Falls in a barrel in 1911. He survived that, though he suffered several fractures. But 15 years later, he slipped on an orange peel and injured his leg. The wound became septic...

I learned the word nutlet today. Apparently, it means a small nut or nut like fruit, or sometimes more precisely the "stone" in the centre of drupaceous fruits such as plums. I have taken a liking to this word, and added it to my ever-expanding list of terms of endearment.

"Tusser, they tell me, when thou wert alive,
Thou, teaching thrift, thyselfe couldst never thrive.
So, like the whetstone, many men are wont
To sharpen others, when themselves are blunt."

Anyone who has any kind of opinion fucking disgusts me.

You know how some assholes love to say "smile, you'll feel better"?

As it turns out, there's actually some evidence that may be true for some people, but I'm congenitally immune to that effect.

TIL that there's a weird-ass Mexican candy called Pulparindo.

It's simultaneously salty, sweet, sour, and spicy.

It tastes like the center of a Fig Newton mixed with Sour Patch Kids and covered in cayenne pepper. It's bizarre, but not bad.
