Texas has something called a Silver Alert system to try to find missing seniors with mental impairments.

Turns out, most of them do. I was aware that Washington and Arizona had them, and I figured there were more states with them, but I didn't know it was so many.

Be careful that you don't intimidate them with your gaze.

TIL What's marketed as tilapia is actually the African Cichlid. It's rebranded as such due to the fact that they can be commonly found in pet store aquariums.

My wife's store pays to feed a third party inventory crew. They're paying them more than their own employees to do the inventory, plus feeding them. Coffee, donuts, milk, juice, chips. I can't reconcile that. The same inventory company does inventory at my store (different retailer) and all we give them is a hard time. They aren't a charity case.

A few days ago, my brother in law told me about something called Kinder Eggs that were banned in the US a few decades ago. TIL it must have been a much creepier time back in the 1980s.

(Presumably, the only way to stop a bad guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law is a good guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law, and thus transgender-friendly privacy law rights need to be enshrined in the Constitution as well)

My kid got those recently. He got a minion inside as the toy. I don't know why they're banned in the US, normally they don't care about dangerous food products. Probably too German.

Americans believe that a Kinder egg is like the Trojan horse. Allow it in and before you realize, the whole place is overrun by Germans. Ever wonder why it's called Germ-any? Because they're tiny like germs.

When I was in Turkey they had not just Kinder eggs but three different brands of knockoff Kinder eggs. One of the knockoff brands actually had pretty decent chocolate (something which is difficult to find in Turkey), and I ended up with a large collection of cheap plastic figures for some children's television show.

TIL that in the National Statuary Hall Collection, in which each state can contribute two statues, Florida is represented by Edmund Kirby Smith and John Gorrie.

Edmund Kirby Smith was a Confederate General (because, Florida), and is expected to be replaced by Mary McLeod Bethune. John Gorrie was an inventor who is considered to be a pioneer in air conditioning (because duh, it's Florida).

Thanks to the Wikipedia article I learned that California replaced its statue of Thomas Starr King, a minister who persuaded California not to secede during the Civil War, with ... Ronald Reagan.
