Explain Your Avatar

Damn Anglerphobe, I've had this weird idea all this time that your avatar was a plague doctor. Must never have looked at it properly.

Its an image from a Mega Man fan made 3D deathmatch type game. Instead of just seeing a Mega Man avatar, now you can see from the avatar's perspective! You're welcome.

Mine is the character "Miles Gloriosus" (the boastful soldier) from the musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

If you're familiar with the commedia dell'arte, miles gloriosus was the roman precursor to the Il Capitano character. Usually he's supposed to be a coward who talks a big game, in Forum he's just a cartoonishly evil general. Here's his big number, from which the grab is from:

Is that just classic series Mega Man? Because I'm kind of hoping for Mega Man Zero, for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with a certain Guardian.

I initially meant for the whole BOS Paladin/Username change to be a way of combatting dysphoria in the wake of a gender identity crisis. Obviously, it didn't work. The username did kind of grow on me, though, so, here's an actual puncher of Deathclaws: Best fallout companion Veronica Santangelo.

My new avatar is a majestic pair of Galapagos gannets.

See, my old avatar was a bat, a Halloween avatar that I never bothered to change. And seeing as it's Hate Week, that's just inviting the evil bastard known as iMURDAu to mock my avatar. I mean, reallifegirl mocked my adorable parakeet avatar last year, and bats open themselves up to all sorts of innuendo.

But I just cannot imagine how anyone could find fault with such a magnificent pair of seabirds as these.

My latest incarnation is from the illustrations of the 13th Century Maciejowski/Morgan Bible, which are well known for putting in the blood and guts and nudity the biblical story needs in order to compete with the high-octane illuminated manuscripts of the modern day.

Most of the people depicted in the Bible's battle illustrations have an expression of solemn duty. This guy is loving it.

The alarmed expression of the man just below and right of him only adds to that impression

The Morgan Bible is a very rich source of mid 13th Century illustrations, some of which are highly memeable as shown below.

It relates to a subject that lends itself to a lot of insufferable puns. That subject is, of course, fans.

On a serious note, I just love Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors for their blend of badassary, awesome looks and familiar fighting style. But that probably doesn't need much of an explanation and I think most people here are probably familiar with Avatar.

A new year, a new avatar. I promised here that this would be my next avatar.

So this is my new avatar. It's an African harrier hawk.

Also, it occurs to me that I should start including my Christmas and Halloween avatars on this thread, so here's my last two: dusky lories and a pair of eclectodes, which I'm still insisting is the plural of "eclectus."

No. This was the only avatar I had where I took the picture myself.

The source of the harrier hawk is linked in the post above, and you can find the source for the other two on the Halloween and Christmas avatar threads.

Mine's pretty simple.

I got bored of the my cracked avatar that I'd photoshopped to remove the face entirely from, so I made this.
