Double post, I guess. But this is a good one.

A study published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine this week claims that researchers were able to reverse the effects of Alzheimer's disease in mice by deleting a single gene responsible for the production of an enzyme called BACE1. They warn that the procedure is unlikely to be as effective on human patients, but this represents a significant step in understanding and eventually curing the disease.

I just got back from a job interview that I think went really well. The company does building inspections similar to what my last job did, but only for commercial projects. It’s a bit far from where I live, but they provide housing close by where I’d be working. They should let me know by next week if I’ll be getting a second interview.

I’m getting a new labradoodle. Last night the breeder texted me because my future dog was born.

Could you make a thread or reply to that old dog thread of mine, and just document your dogs life? Take pictures every week, show him grow, develop, everythinngggggg.

Lots of pictures.

Ever since I moved to Austin, in fact ever since some point in Virginia on the drive here, I've been chronically congested. The sole exceptions have been brief periods in really hot showers. Sudafed doesn't seem to do anything for it.

Today I woke up early and couldn't get back to bed, because immediately after waking up I felt my sinuses clear up. I'm not sure if it will last, but it feels great to breathe unimpeded again outside the context of the shower.

I don't want to say it prematurely but I think I might have just made a friend.

I got a call from a recruiter a little while ago about a possible permanent job that has awesome benefits from a small telecom company (they want to remain anonymous unless I get an interview with them, for ominous reasons). I think I may have applied to this job before (or a similar one), but I have slightly more relevant experience now.

Also, someone from a company that makes 3D printers called me after I watched a bunch of their webinars a few weeks ago, and said he'd send me some information about their stuff. Today I got a book called Industrial 3D Printing for Dummies, by that company.

So the bad news is that Dell sold me a laptop with a faulty SSD and didn't call me back for three days.

The good news is that I called Tech Support again today and the tech helped me realize that I can just slot in the SSD from my old busted laptop and it works perfectly fine. They're going to send me a replacement drive, but the one I'm using now is actually bigger. And it's got all my old porn documents on it. Great success.

Some of my flatmates made banoffee pie today. Knowing I can't stand bananas, they made a special portion of "offee pie" just for me. I'm just scraping out the bowl now. It is delicious.
