So my wife and son got hit by someone who drove off back in January. Just got the settlement for an uninsured motorist claim. Two checks. $994 and $565. We only owe $450 in medical bills. We kind of ran up our Amazon card after we got the house so this will really help make Christmas shopping easier. Shiiiiiiit I'm even thinking about splurging on a sweet Rick The Jewels shirt.

My grandma's PET scan came back clear! Eight more weeks of chemo just to make sure, but it's still great news!

I got to meet/talk to/get autographs from/hug Ricky Whittle (Shadow on American Gods) and Pablo Schrieber (Mad Sweeney on American Gods/Pornstache on Orange is the New Black) at New York Comic Con. It was very cool.

Ricky Whittle is very very charming and wears excellent cologne.

Pablo Schrieber is MASSIVELY TALL.

My Paypal credit limit went up again. I guess they like people who rarely use it (never more than about 5% at a time).

ok, so, last weekend happened. and it was very good. I could have had sex if I had any thought that it was even a possibility and brought some condoms. but I didn't think even just talking about it was anywhere near the proverbial table, so I didn't. hell, I was set to sleep on the couch until she said that I could come upstairs if I wanted.

it's not like we haven't before, but it has been at least 21 years. for us, anyway. about 2 for me. TM fucking I

anyway.

she's telling me how getting the house to herself (plus cat and two dogs) was a rare thing and it probably wouldn't happen again for awhile. I understand/stood, single mom with two kids and all. I wasn't going to push my luck. hell, I...well, that's another story for another time.

so, we're still doing the facespace, and calling now, I guess. and she tells me that her mom is going to take the kids camping next weekend. I have Thurs and Fri off, and now it's a question of if she comes up here or I go down there.

it's kinda nice to have a smile on my face again.

and edit, dammit. while frustrated at the time, she later told me that she was happy that I didn't think I was gonna score so easily.

A cousin of mine got married today. The wedding was fun, but the food wasn’t great. There was an open bar.

I've been entering a writing contest tournament from a group called NYC Midnight for the last few years. I've entered pretty consistently but never gotten past Round 2 (everyone gets to participate in the first two rounds), though this is partially because at least one round invariably lands on a weekend where I'm traveling.

This year, I made it through and am on to Round 3, and I scored the most amount of points in my heat. And I did it even after having to write one of my assignments in an airport terminal!

And since they only take the top 5 people in each heat, and there's at least 30 people per heat (I think there's a total of about 2500 people participating), it puts me in the top 17% of the people that entered. I feel good!

Congratulations, hopefully you win it. What are you writing about?

Thanks! It's a contest where they send us prompts with a genre, setting, and an object, and you have to write something that fits all three. It's also a flash fiction contest, so everything has to be 1000 words or less, to force you to keep it short.

Is it possible for you to make a thread where you post everything you write in each stage?

Sure! I can put them up in The Fridge subforum, though I'll wait 'til tomorrow to dig them up.

the Joplin woman is forcing...wait, that's not the right word. she's coercing me to do the things that we both know I should do. writing is one of them. 6 things so far. newest one sent today. getting your thoughts down is a good way to see things more clearly.

HEB finally has Texas grapefruit. For those of you who don't know (I didn't until I went to the history museum) Texas grapefruit are redder than most red grapefruit and entirely free of bitterness. I bought a five-pound bag and had one just now. Delicious. Someone's not going to be getting scurvy anytime soon!

Just found out today I'm getting a job as an analyst at the central office for the state liquor agency I've been working for. Still part time to start, but the pay is a lot better and I'll actually be doing something related to my degree. And no more dealing with surly old redneck customers who want to pay entirely in nickels!
