Sometimes dreams really do come true

Postby cmsellers » Wed Aug 29, 2018 3:50 am

Something occurred to me recently. So far, I have achieved none of the life goals I have set for myself since I hit puberty, much less adulthood.

However when I was a kid, I dreamed of having a pet "flying dinosaur." I hoped it would be possible, but never thought it would be.

And now I have two.
Yes, technically I meant pterosaurs, but this is the closest I have come to achieving any of my dreams, shut up.

What about you guys? What are the closest you have come to achieving your dreams?

I don't have any dreams.

So pretty darn close!

I always dreamed of getting married and having a family, which came true a couple years ago.

My dreams of having a fulfilling, lucrative career haven't quite come true yet. I get paid a decent wage, but I feel like I'm being underpaid for my age and competence. Also, it's just a job, and working customer service is definitely not fun or fulfilling.

I'll be crude as usual.

I wanted a nice house with a white fence, a nice car, plenty of access to entertainment media (games, books, movies, music, etc), and a big booty bitch to go with it.

I have not achieved the white fence goal. It will be nice though. And depending on the price hopefully it'll be not-wood so I don't have to weatherproof and paint it.

Everything else is mwa ;)

So blah blah what about blah after the stupid fence blah? Well I'd like to do some travelling but way more than we could even dream of affording. Like take three months to fuck off in Europe, spend a while in Japan, see some of the sights here in 'Murica that the boy hasn't seen yet like the Grand Canyon.

Luckily for me, I was a dumb and naive kid who had absolutely no idea what it was going to be like to be an adult, so I don't have to worry about my dreams not coming true because they were all absurd in the context of the real world to begin with.

Furthermore, the world itself has become so absurd that I don't blame myself for not seeing what was over the horizon.

There was no way in hell that anybody in the 90s could have envisioned the world of today.

That said...

I can drive
I can stay up late
I can drink all the coffee I want
porn is infinite and everywhere and free
all of human knowledge is accessible on a device I can hold in my hand, how sci-fi is that?
I don't have to call up my Dad to help me fix something - I can just watch a video and then go do it myself
dogs are plentiful and easy to get
people can do school from home now, even college
wi-fi is a thing - WI FI IS A THING, Y'ALL
my phone is a flashlight/camera/video recorder/gps device/compass/hard drive/internet browser/guitar tuner/alarm clock/egg timer/stopwatch/video game console/notepad/calculator/instant messenger/photo album/reminder bot/and many more things, but it also does phone calls

I don't know, man, I think from the perspective of being a kid, all my dreams just kind of happened over time.

I've been feeling down on myself recently for not achieving everything I feel like I should have achieved by now (thanks, abundance of stories on the Internet about 16-year-old super-geniuses and such), so I'm going to try and remind myself of the things I have managed.

-Finished university
-Full time job that pays enough to support my occasional drunken Amazon shopping issues a comfortable life
-Said job is biology related
-Finally moved out of the parents' house before I went insane
-I am no longer the owner of the world's shittiest Pontiac, and my current car actually heats up in the winter
-An amazing partner, which is something I thought was so impossible that I never even really dreamed of it

Maybe it's still not much, but it's something.

I have a snake.

It's what I always wanted.

Success.

Graduating college and getting my first full-time job (almost like a grownup or something) after that did it for me, while it lasted.

And like Mal said, driving, staying up late, and drinking coffee were definitely on the list.

(Presumably, the only way to stop a bad guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law is a good guy with a transgender-friendly privacy law, and thus transgender-friendly privacy law rights need to be enshrined in the Constitution as well)
